Oh, okay. I thought maybe you had discovered some ancient secret method for sexing day old silkies!

All the breeders and silkie owners I know drive themselves nuts trying to decipher a sign or signal for sexing.

Cant they be vent sexed? just sayin

Congrats on setting the eggs. And welcome to the thread! We must warn you though, setting eggs can and probably will become very addicting. If you are unfamiliar with chicken math, you will learn it very quickly!

Guess what. CHICK #3!!!!! I've gotten one a night since Christmas. And its never at like 7 always at around 11.

Finally traced what I have of next weeks set. So far 9 duck eggs, 9 turkeys, and a dozen chickens. Hopefully ill get some more turkeys. I'll definitely get some duck eggs though. So happy. Hopefully ill have more little peepers soon. Im refusing to sleep tonight

I feel so bad for my little incubator chicks. Everything is wet. But its not humid. So when they come out they cant dry off. I dont know what to do.

So I started my cirst flock this year and just put five eggs in the incubator for the first time.

WELCOME to the thread and BYC Country lovin!

Welcome to the addiction!

I have to ask as I ask everyone the first time,
Did you calibrated thermo/hygros? and are not going by the one that came with your bator?
Do you know fan models vs still air need different temps?
Did you set only fresh eggs less than 14days, unwashed?
Do you know humidity is NOT a set number, only a tool to use for proper weight loss and you start low humidity 35% max until day 7 and then adjust as necessary?

LET ME GET THIS RIGHT..... LOCKDOWN / Hatching these next few days over Christmas and between new years....

Fire ~finished hatch has more hatching again (so much for not incubating more till after new years bawahhahah)

Brat ~14 babies hatch Christmas Eve! 11 Breese, 1 Sulmtaler, 1 Wheaten Ameraucana and 1 Swedish Flowe Hen. They are so cute. I swore I was done but there was a Christmas auction for fancy colored Orpingtons so...... Lol it's gonna be a busy winter!

CCL CrazyChickLady 7due to hatch the 27-28 A couple blue slate turkeys (they are moving to the other Bator. Due to hatch the 3rd), some buff orps, a polish, a few barnyard mixes, and i think that's it. A guy is paying me to hatch them. 14/15 we alive and wiggling. HAS A CHICK as of last night UPDATE!! Shah Sat was day 18. I have 7 that I think have a good chance at hatching, 3 maybes and 4 others that were just hard to tell because if they died it was later in incubation. So I'm on lockdown now! 3:13pm has a pip Monday.

CH~ steel nothing steal nothing Leaving in thirty minutes my mom is going to care her best for these last two eggs hopefully I get a deer this time. The last time the reason I did not get a deer is I fell asleep.

jessimom We have a total of 5 hatched.. They started out slow, and got faster during the night. The first hatch was 4 pm, second 10 pm, 3rd 2 am, 4th 3 am and 5th 4 am. When I got up the next time at 7, I was expecting 3 more chicks! . #8 is hatching now. 2 more pipped, but not much action going on. The egg I moved from the other 'bator has been rocking back and forth, but no more attempts at getting out. I have 10 hatched!!! 3 left un-pip'd. One of those 3 belongs to the 1/1 HAL


tJO ~ tjo804 Broody hatched chicks UPDATE : 6 Chicks with BabyBear they all look to be blue silkies but that is prob cuz ChipChip is a Blue Silkie. There are still 5 eggs I moved them to Sunshine another Broodie after BB got off them so I really don't have much hope but will check later today and see.

Morning...off to work today. Allllll day.

Chase is taking care of the farm today, he's off work. The bator has been holding steady at 99 degrees, I'm watching it like a...well, a broody hen, lol. So far everything looks good.


I do need some help with pourous eggs. The chickens are on 20 percent layer feed, free choice calcium chips, and broken egg shells added into their feed. I am thinking it is due to age, they are over 2 years old. What do you think? Should I even try to set these eggs? Anyone have any good experience setting pourous eggs or should I be the guinea pig for the group? lol

Talk to yall tonight, hopefully i'll be able to update that the bator is holding steady and the chicks are chillin.

Allll day no work! Good for you!! you can set them, they will be fine just keep a good eye on them. I would try some electrolyes with vits in the waterers and see if you have a change in a week or two.

I add some ground up human tablets I buy in bulk - just 5 tabs per 100lb of feed for adult birds.
