Morning, M'lord!

I have been thinking about what breeds I'm going to get next year (aiming for 25 chickens total) and was kinda stuck. What is y'all's favorite breeds, with pretty fair production? (4-6 a week)
I have been thinking about: BCM, CCL, salmon faverolles, and banty barred rock
Not all have to be stellar producers, I am aiming for 75% layers and 25% pets and ornamentals.

M'Lady, since I'm a novice, I can't give any advice on which breeds will fit your needs. My goal is to have a good stock of dual-purpose birds, which is probably going to narrow my choices down to a pretty small list. For egg production, it's hard to beat the sexlinks, and I'll keep a few of those for that purpose. I'll also be keeping a few of my barred rock pullets and see how they fare as far as egg production, but if nothing else, they'll do good for table birds. I plan to get my hands on some heritage RIR in the spring, and they should provided the best of both worlds... eggs and meat. I know... you can't kill yours, but I'm not going to feed them unless they provide me with some form of return on my investment. Not sure if I'll do ornamentals, at least they aren't in the foreseeable future. If I find there's a market for them in this area, I may change my mind. Time will tell, but first things first...

Nahh, that's fine, I did ask what your favorite breed was, and you answered perfect!

Yep, I do enjoy watching a rainbow of chicken breeds tumble out the coop every morning! (One day I gotta get a video!) :lau

Bantams have stolen my heart..... But they sure aren't DP in the least!
Almost as good layers as sexlinks, in the summer, but lay literally NOTHING in the winter.

Hello friends, I have an age old question I need an answer to. My chicks are now 4wks and 7 was respectfully. I live in Massachusetts, winter is approaching fast, already had some snow, so when should I start intergrating them outside?

I was told when they are fully feathered 5-6 weeks for most breeds if they have a dry draft free place to roost.

Bantams can be good layers, that's for sure, and they consume a lot less feed than large fowl. I just like the way a large or jumbo egg feels, and it doesn't take many to make a good meal.
