I need help. This is my first hatch and the very first chick pipped and hatched itself in about an hour. Sac is not absorbed!foot seemed to be stuck in it for a bit. Now free but most of yolk seemed to have leaked away and almost seems to be innards and intestines out now. What should I do?

If it is just the yolk sac then they can make it by pushing the yolk sack back or letting it dry out and cutting the dry "stump" off in a few days. These chicks will survive if you can get the umbilicus to close. Steri-strips can help here, and get eating and drinking fast.

However if all the guts are out it is likley to result in a short or long protracted death. You can sometimes poke a single guy loop back in but not if they are all pulled out. They never go back in right and get infected.

I have never had one survive after the guts got pulled out by a foot as you describe. IMO the kindest thing is to euthanize however you choose to do that. Hugs.

NOOO candle FAT end down... fat end is air cell, look through that into egg EDIT
see this image, you dont want the egg fat end up to candle though, NOT like this pic as far as direction
but see how they have their hand cupped over the end of the flashlight? do this but from the fat end down into the egg..... so you dont disrupt air cells more with being upsidedown

ALWAYS keep fat end up, at candles when they are messed up from shipping!

You might want to consider amending the wording to read "...candle from the fat end down". When I was catching up & came across this post, my first thought was typo. I had to read it twice to understand. As it stands at present, the text seems contradictory. Am I seeing something that's not there?

I can't see who all is here now, being on mobile version but good morning, everyone! :frow

Mornin! :frow :hugs

Good morning, Bubbles :hugs

In case you jump on here in the meantime @Sally Sunshine good morning :hugs and I see you need an update lol. (Sorry I've been slacking, haven't I!!)
My shipped self blue bantam Cochins are doing good. I had to throw out a stinker and a seeper

So out of those 10 remaining, 7 are developing nicely

They're on day 7.
I ended up receiving 16 shipped from GA, they looked good considering the single digit temps- only 3 saddles and none cracked. They're on day 3 today, will candle Wednesday maybe.

Gotta jump off, heading out to meet the farrier at the barn for the horses' hoof trims. Bbl :frow

@LocalYokel

Good Saturday mornin' to you.
I see someone's called you "Loko"
I think I'll start calling you LOCO; seems to fit you perfectly.

Make sure your hands are warm before you start milking them onery cows; wouldn't want you to make an unexpected trip to the other side of the barn
