I just got a call from the PO saying that I have a soggy, sticky box there that stinks....

I have been very lucky in that all my shipped eggs came intact; some completely scrambled, but not broken. However, the packaging on some of my bonsai orders has been completely smashed. If those boxes had contained eggs…well, they'd been like what you describe. Every time I get smashed packages I fume. I've relation that worked at a post office and heard them laugh about what they did with packages marked, "Fragile", "Live animals", "Hatching eggs". I will never understand people like that.

The author says that they use Tektrol to clean the eggs, and doing that will kill mycoplasma, but then the talk about giving the eggs an antibiotic bath. I guess I need to learn more about the disease.

exactly!!!  I dont get it or see anything backing up the info.  Is tylan water soluble?

I was wondering, since oz, rbaker and I think you were involved with the wormer research in the diary thread a few years ago on this subject.... how do we find info on Teratogenic effects with antibiotic use in poultry? 

Also if used on the egg would this come into play with a dip solution anyways?  

Couple of things I'd like to know... If a hen is positive for mycoplasma, does that mean that all chicks from her will be? Or does she have to be having an active outbreak?

What does vertical transmission mean? Does it mean the egg is infected while in the repro tract or as it exits the repro tract?

It would be nice to see some studies that back up the suggestion to bathe the eggs in an antibacterial wash.

Here the same we had a very good governmental post company now it have been privatized
And now we got the worst service in the world!

The chicks in the picture are just 4 weeks old (1 cockerel and three pullets) and the mother laid the 1st egg of her next clutch yesterday. Two days ago it was -31 and today was -16; just considering how dumb I am to be thinking of letting the hen brood another batch of eggs.

It's very tempting though. The chicks look good, especially the little cockerel. I can always keep them on the dining room table like this batch.



My wife said nothing last time, but I'm really pushing it to try that again. I suppose having hen and chicks on the dining room table is a bit much--HA.
