Yes, looks like he'll be ok, just needed antibiotics and quiet - he's healing (that's what the "showers" are for, to help blood flow to his wounds, which look MUCH better).

Several very small terriers got loose from someones yard (not our neighborhood) and got into mine. Dumbledore flew out of his paddock and led the dogs away from all the other chickens and to the front of the house. I came home to a driveway full of feathers, interrupting attack. Amazing he lived, little hero. Chalk one up for coming home early from work every once and a while. All other chickens are completely ok.

Same thing happened here a couple years ago with 2 or 3 Jacks, only I wasn't so lucky.

Oh, he's not sad, he LOVES his hot water spa and blow dry sessions - he was falling asleep. He especially likes when I blow dry under his wing. He's gonna be SO spoiled by the end of this.

He WAS sad and in pain when it first happened:

Oh NO!! Is his whole tail gone? But, what a great protector!!! Awesome to lead the dogs away!

When is all that horrible weather supposed to start for you guys? Everyone got their adult beverages stocked up? (Who needs toilet paper...)

Entire tail and back half of body completely bare to the skin, scraped up, shallow dog bites. Also bare patches on both legs/thighs, entire right chest and under wing, back of neck, and partial upper back. He really did look like a bird that was halfway done being plucked for dinner. He's doing very well and anxious to be outside full time, but it's too cold for that for him even here.

His new nickname is Captain America (well, except when I call him Mr. Fluffybutt - which he objects to).

So sorry to hear that - I was very lucky to interrupt them before they managed to figure out how to get into his hiding place where he had wedged himself. Those little dogs are evil little suckers - and HARD to keep out of my yard! (One was smaller than many cats!).

Wow, that must have been horrifying to see. I am so glad that it wasn't any worse. How long will it take is tail to grow back?
