Benny says bleach and Sally says ammonia. I know better than to mix them.

Benny is skeered of ammonia, I SAID well ventilated with a fan, oh and for his sake WEAR A MASK AND gloves,
you can use either! but if you have had cocci I will ALWAYS suggest ammonia!

10% ammonia solution ~ but ammonia can not be used when the chicks are present in the other unit,  unless you run a fan for some good air flow

It can harm you also the fumes are dangerous! Way no to use bleach?

I always get it all over myself.

The brooders last held guinea keets and they are FOUL, HORRIBLE creatures. So nasty. Their poop is like tar, or slime.

It's on the back porch, so no fan? Or set up a box fan to blow around? It's breezy right now, if that matters.

I won't have chicks for 24 hours.

The 40w element from an old LG I tried to repurpose into a large cabinet did almost nothing. I have 100 and 126 watt metallic elements along with a 90 watt lamp.

:highfive:      Afternoon paddler, h:hugs I was wondering how is your water project has been going? @ChickenCanoe

Ray its lovely!!  Funny this summer the kids wanted to make snow shoes as a craft and I said no, because I dont have the right saplings and stuff on our property, now I wish we would have made some! they would have a great time with them!!!

TOTALLY Agree!!

Nope its a mental thing :lau I think I can remember everything    I would love to see your data!!  would be sweet @Peep-Chicken
I posted a bunch of Aps and data collection sheet files for everyone in our notes/links page, did you see them?

they are both within the temperature range let it go, or you can switch them to the same spots and see what they read.     but again, your within a good range I would leave them

Yup, a mental thing haha. :lau I date my eggs with pencil, and every week or so I'll take a picture of that bunch. I have been working all day on putting those into a Google docs, I have 2013, 2014, and 2016 done, just need 2015. There are some faults here and there, oh well. Pretty close though. I'll hopefully post a link to it soon. :weee

No I haven't, I'll have to look. I have a quail egg candling guide actually, I just need to post to BYC. It's the candling pictures of quail till hatch day, maybe you want to put that in there when it's up?

Nice. It takes so long to get everyone what they need in this weather.

I've tried many times. I made a new year's resolution to do it religiously this year.
I have a spreadsheet with 8 separate flocks. There is a sheet with the band numbers of all the birds in each flock. It also has the daily high and low temperature.
I hope to have trapnests in some coops this year so I can actually record production of each hen.
I'm starting a gardening/beekeeping/chicken apprenticeship here this week so if I have enough helpers these wish lists can get some attention.

One of them is likely not accurate. Hot air rises so in a still air, the top of the eggs will be hotter than the middle of the eggs.
Either temperature will hatch some eggs but in a still air, it should be 100.5 at the top of the egg and 99.5 in the middle.
If forced air, it should be 99.5 everywhere.

It is a lot of work at times, it's hard to get into a routine with it, specially with many chickens. Yours sounds pretty detailed.

just ventilate so you dont inhale, you know what you gotta do. A good windy day works wonders yes!
