No worries, I am AMAZED at how much work you put into the list! I am definitely addicted, but I see it ending for a while. I need to re-home my silkie roo (my only roo). He is too loud, and the No Crow Rooster collar isn't working. I've used the collar before on other roos - that I didn't want, and it worked. This guy, I have to choke him before he quiets down. Anyone want him? He's the dark one in the back.

Yes. No secret. She has a nest box out of reach of the other hens and when she has laid about a dozen eggs she'll go broody. I leave the eggs in the nest box undisturbed. This will be her third clutch since October. All my hens will do the same if their eggs are left or replaced with dummy eggs one at a time/one a day.. I have repeated this process over and over this summer, fall and winter with nine different hens. Each one went broody within a week of my prediction; most within two days.

The hen laid her sixth egg yesterday. She started clucking and walking around all fluffed up today. The pictures show the hen with her chicks five weeks ago in the nest box that contains her most recent eggs. The other picture is the four chicks all lined up on my leg.

Adorable!!!!

Good afternoon all!
First of all, I will debate Whites' comment about me laughing at everyone who got dumped on with the snow... I am not laughing, been there done that, just thankful it wasn't me this time

Sally, in response to your reprimand about letting my knee heal up a bit, I am trying to rest it, but I have the same issues as Dax...life gets in the way.

now that I have had my little rant(s) for the day, my bakers dozen has turned into 8 little fluff balls (pics tonight).
I had one very early quitter I culled at lock down, three early arrivals (all healthy), 4 on time and healthy, one malpo that did not make it, three shrink wrapped quitters, and one late malpo that needed some assistance this morning and seemed to be doing good in the bator when I left for work this morning.
Can't explain the shrink wrapped. no temp spikes and humidity was stable through lock down at 70-73% according to my hygro.
As for the malpos, I am beginning to see a trend with certain areas of my bator hot & cold spots.

Got a few hours of work done on the new cabinet bator yesterday, but found out the supply of fans I have are mostly undersized or not working at all, so off to the surplus shop to find a new batch of fans. I will post some pics of progress tonight as well.

Hope everyone is getting dug out and stays safe and warm!

Whites going back after them crappie today.
Going out with my wife's boss...funny I remember him growing up with my kids. I was even his little league coach....now he's my wife's boss....:lau....getting old...:/.....bye guys...maybe I'll get service on the lake. Nothing like taking my friends out fishing....:)

While most of you were being snowed on, we finished the first part of one of the new coops as a brooder room. Because of the compliance issue we had, we made the LARGE coop we were building into 2 small coops (or as we started calling them - sheds).

Sounds like you've got the same Zoning staff we have. You can build anything here without a permit as long as it doesn't exceed two-stories or 120 sf. That's one horse stall lean-to, but no room for hay storage. Anything larger and you need a permit, which'll set you back a couple hundred and two months for bureaucracy. I made sure my coop and run were two separate structures, so they've got an alleyway connection (which the chickens LOVE to run down when the coop door opens). I think you can get away with building bigger IF the building is portable.
