Good afternoon all!
First of all, I will debate Whites' comment about me laughing at everyone who got dumped on with the snow... I am not laughing, been there done that, just thankful it wasn't me this time

Sally, in response to your reprimand about letting my knee heal up a bit, I am trying to rest it, but I have the same issues as Dax...life gets in the way.

now that I have had my little rant(s) for the day, my bakers dozen has turned into 8 little fluff balls (pics tonight).
I had one very early quitter I culled at lock down, three early arrivals (all healthy), 4 on time and healthy, one malpo that did not make it, three shrink wrapped quitters, and one late malpo that needed some assistance this morning and seemed to be doing good in the bator when I left for work this morning.
Can't explain the shrink wrapped. no temp spikes and humidity was stable through lock down at 70-73% according to my hygro.
As for the malpos, I am beginning to see a trend with certain areas of my bator hot & cold spots.

Got a few hours of work done on the new cabinet bator yesterday, but found out the supply of fans I have are mostly undersized or not working at all, so off to the surplus shop to find a new batch of fans. I will post some pics of progress tonight as well.

Hope everyone is getting dug out and stays safe and warm!

Just now got plowed out. Don't have anywhere in particular I need to go, but breathe easier knowing I can, if I choose, or have to. And thanks for the top billing over Sally. That don't happen often

It varies from year to year but always some old reliables.

I have four 4X40' raised beds for veggies that get rotated seasonally. I use one or two for chicken pasture for one coop with a hoop pen they can access the bed from.
There are also herb, berry, asparagus, potato and corn beds nearby.
I always grow spring greens (mesclun), spinach, lettuces, brassicas, chilies, tomatoes, tomatillos, Asian vegetables including long beans, melons, pumpkins.
Tossed some fresh pineapple to mine last week. The meat disappeared, but the top's still there.

Very nice! I wish I could have the land for this.... I have in my garden a lot of fruit trees
I don't really have that much space. About an acre but I cram a lot into it. I have a few small fruit trees. A couple apples, a couple peaches, a plum, a pear, an apricot, a persimmon, a potted lime that comes inside in winter, at least a dozen mulberry trees, Then big raspberry, strawberry, goji berry patches and some blackberries.
All this stuff is interspersed with chicken runs/coops and bee hives.

For the chickens?
Yeah, I can't picture them eating the tops. I have tops in the compost.

Picture of the bigger joint?

This is the only photo I still have of his leg on from before I splinted it on my phone. I can get better one when I get home.

Disclaimer - I have very little experience dealing with this problem. Maybe putting it in a sling/chick chair? Probably best to get the weight off the leg and keep it from walking ot it's hock. If the hock gets too swollen, the tendon will not stay in place.

Short, and hopefully easy question for y'all. Consider all other issues ideal, does a chick need to be able to move the egg shell to zip, or does it turn inside the shell to zip?
Hatching Behavior & How the chick Comes out of the Shell post #34865 it turns in the shell
MARKING AIR CELLS DAY 18, DRAW DOWN, INTERNAL PIP, EXTERNAL PIP, and ZIPPING post #35770
