INCUBATING w/FRIENDS! w/Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs No problem!

Good afternoon all!  Just spent a couple hours trying to catch up.  CB's, we had one growing up.  One of my favorite movies uses a CB for the plot "Frequency".
Antenna's....when I was living in Samoa, our house was right next to the radio station's antenna.  We had a two way radio from the house down to the resort I was working at.  With the power off, that two way radio still played the radio station.  Only problem was when the old man was DJing, he only played Natalie Cole's "unforgettable", over and over and over....

As far as hatching....My shipped eggs went in to lock looking SO GOOD.  Most had good air cells, good veins, everything looked good.  NOT ONE PIP.  20 eggs, nothing is hatching, pipping or zipping.  We are on day 22.   I have had a consistent 70 - 90% hatch rate with my silkies.  I did NOTHING different with these eggs.  My temps are stable, humidity is stable.  The eggs came from 2 different shippers.  What might have happened to wipe out EVERYTHING?  I'll give them another couple of days, but I"m not very hopeful.:hit
so sorry. :hugs

I'm so sorry....I hope you rehome him, rather than put him down.

I have an Akita/Lab mix that when I move the chicks from the incubator to the brooder, I let her smell and lick them.  When I buy chicks, I do the same thing.  One baby chick squeezed out of the brooder and landed on the floor.  My dog nosed it over to my folks saying, look what I found.  The next time it squeezed out, the cats found it first.  It was not the same happy ending.  She does like to charge up to the chicken run fence, and sit there until all the chickens come over and start pecking her nose, then she moves and gets the chickens to follow her.  They are the only ones around that play with her.   I don't think she would ever hurt them.

Me too. And your dog sounds really cute!

don't say runny noses/beaks r sneezing. I got some that did that and now everything has ms.

So far no sneezing, but it's causing straw and dust to get stuck to their beaks and in their nostrils causing issues. Hopefully this clears it up.

My old fat weenie dog just ate 2 of my three month old chicks that i just put out in my big pen.

This has been going on for a while, so I think we need to put him down. That also means that I need to get a new dog. You guys have any recommendations for the best dog with the chickens?
Lots of folks use Jack Russell Terriers. We had one for 10-12 yr. We got him as a 2 yr old. He wasn't here very long before he attacked & killed one of my hens. We had a very serious "discussion" following the incident, and he never again even looked sideways at a chicken. Even went into the chicken yard with me a few times. Jacks, in general are very intelligent, quickly learning what's expected of them, and what won't be tolerated, They're also quite devoted to "their" people.

Howdy whites!

Yes, I do. I don't particularly like her because she refuses to even look at the bird if she thinks the whole flock could possibly need treatment, but she'll work in a pinch. There's also one that I can use a little further away.
I'd use the further one, myself, simply because of the attitude of the nearer one.

Hi, I have always had Australian Sheppards, they are melow and very helpful, all around great family dog. Our Ausie has never hurt any of my birds, and he is a herding dog, he helps me move my birds to where I want them to go. This takes training, of course. We also have a German Shorthaired Pointer, she on the other hand is a "Bird" dog. she has killed some of my chickens, yrs ago, she is trained now to not bother my chickens or ducks. Training being the optimum word. It does take time to train a dog to do or not do what we want them to do.

I am so sorry for your baby chicks and for your old fat weenie dog... dog being he optimum word.:hugs
