Quote: I don't think it's about the money. Think about it... If you were a small animal vet and got a call from a new client that wanted to have one bird tested, but wanted drugs for an entire flock, what do you think you would do? Any vet I have dealt with would not prescribe drugs for the whole flock if they were dealing with a *new* client. Now if they refused to see the one bird, that's a different story and they should be reported: http://www.vetabusenetwork.com/filecomplaint.htm
My suggestion for those that don't have an established relationship with a vet is to find a vet you can work with, cough up the $45-$65 for an office visit/wellness exam and take a bird in, then talk to that vet about your concerns and how they would go about dealing with you if your flock were to get sick.
Regarding vets refusing to treat birds... Vets try to stay current with the species they treat, which requires them going to seminars, lectures, reading, etc, and I think most vets want to give the best possible care to animals. Since a dog/cat vet's experience with birds is probably limited to what they did in vet school, they probably aren't comfortable in treating them.

That they are not devolved yet. if its day 23 and no hatching, next time I would raise the temperature up 1/2 to 1 degree and see if they will hatch on time.Good morning! Still nothing, day 23, float test last night said lots of them were wiggling. All viable. I took 2 that did not wiggle and tried to open them this morning. One was barely alive, but a HUGE yolk sack and didn't look ready to hatch. She didn't make it. The other wasn't breathing or moving, but there was lots of blood.. They weren't shrink wrapped, or sticky. Should I just leave them and see what happens?
All the other non hatchers I've had, when I've opened them up, there has been no blood. What does it mean that there is so much blood in these?

I hope I run into an update!!! @Jessimom hmmmm you had low temps at some point, do you think at night you have been dipping?Ok, I may not be out of luck here. I just did a float test, was doubtful so I threw them all in the water. For all of them, the majority of the egg was under water, the air cell section was above. I walked away for a minute to grab my camera, when I got back there were 4 or 5 (maybe more) of them wiggling. So, some are still alive! They all went back in the bator. I am DEFINITELY on day 22. So, these are very late hatchers.
CH - I thought you were on day 14 or 15, did you set your eggs the same time I set mine???? Jan 15 or 16th?
Good night Sally! I hope you feel better tomorrow!!Quote:Night all!!![]()

@Mirajane !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mira!!!!Hello Everyone! I haven't logged on in forever... My chicks are hatching and one was malpositioned, so I helped it after 48 hours, and he pulled himself out of shell, is now stuck to shell and bleeding out of his navel. I'm guessing he didn't absorb yolk sack all the way? How do I solve this problem?

Welcome to the thread and BYC!!![]()
@FuzzybuttsWow, I was just here this afternoon talking about CBs and stuff. I will have to go back and read all the posts after I get stuff figured out here. My trusty Hovabator is starting to go wonky on me tonight, my eggs will be on day seven tomorrow. It has been spot on this whole time, except when I cook, or shower the humidity rises. In case you don't remember, I left my farm after a break up, and I am now living in a studio apartment, so any little thing I do changes things! (I am still waiting on my name to be changed to studio chick). I wanted to get a new wafer and thought I had ordered it from incubator warehouse, come to find out, I did not press the last button that said "place order"I figured that out a couple of days ago so hopefully it will be here Monday. This is my first time hatching Silkies, the couple of eggs I sneaked a peak at looked to have pretty small air cells. They were local eggs, the guy said he hatches them along with his Orps and told me not to make any changes with how I hatch (I have only hatched Orpingtons). But now I am wondering if I should lower the humidity even more, since I am in such a small place and anything I do seems to effect it. I also just noticed it is 12:30 am, that means it is officially day seven, I could candle. But I can't get the temp up now, so I don't want to push it![]()
I know chatty bunch werent they!! do you have images of your pencil marks from candle? what has humidity averaged during the first 7? Also how much have temps been fluxing?![]()
Quote: @MotorcycleChick update on the horses!! Have they been taken to ER?
Morning!!Hey everyone just did my day 7 candle found out all the brown eggs (vital farms backyard eggs from whole foods) are not fertile completely clear 4 of the trader Joe's fertile eggs early quitters (blood ring no to little vein development )6 doing great saw the heart beating and the other 2 questionable no beating visible but okish vein development I'll wait a week more before I throw them out. (What does everyone do with the early quitters, garbage, feed...?) How does the air cells look seem uniform not to sureceive if they are the property size or not
Looks good from what I can see for day 7! nice candle, I am so sorry about the other eggs! I hope you are running out to buy more! I had good luck with my refridge eggs both times! wonder how old yours were??? @fresnofarmer![]()
