I know this is answered somewhere in this thread but cant seem to find it. But I am getting 40 quail eggs (shipped) and was wondering how long they need to sit after I get them and if I should sit in turner but not turnnon for a few days.

Hard to see much candling them.
I would set them all immediately and in the turner.
As long as they weren't oozing.
I would already have my bator running for 36 hours prior.

Should I turn the turner on?

OK, but they came from a breeder around here who has been breeding his reds for 30+ years
He's been breeding Production Reds. Nothing wrong with that. But it's like people saying they have Ameraucans and in reality they have EE's. Who's fault is it. There's or just not truly having the knowledge of what they are breeding.

Sorry, theres only 2 types of reds. Production and Heritage. You have what they call Production Reds.
I saw on hatchery advertisint RIR and PRIR, but they do specify they aren't show quality birds. Can't remember which site it's on... But your are correct... there are heritage and production.... no in betweens!!!!

Quote: That's there way to lie themselves out of what they don't really have. They may cross a Heritage Red with something then say they have PRIR's. I guess it's like advertisements saying something is free then charging you for it. Again, people must have knowledge on what they are actually getting.

@Sally Sunshine congratulations on getting your pic as the caption contest picture!

And what is the grey one with it's bottom in the air, right in front?
that is one of my two Lavender Orpington hens. The roo and some Barred Rocks, and buff/EE that are in that pen were off to my left when I took that picture. They and my EE and Sapphire pullets would all have to go.

After I buried the other Cockeral and brought the other in the house I came down to put the PRIR hen in a separate coop. She is not very calm or anything, I was trying to herd her into the other coop. After 15 minutes I went to take a break and she attacked another duccle! She is definitely going to freezer camp! Luckily I caught her in time and the bird wasn't hurt. Stupid RIR
