I see what you're saying.
But i could never hatch 100 chicks at once. Dont have enough chickens. But i was thinking about after i do my first hatch, het the word out maybe 1-2 days after hatch so i can make sure they dont have any injuries. Then sell those chicks to whoever buys them. Then what i would do is do 'orders' where people tell ne how many chicks they want and i put some eggs in the bator then they pay for the ones that hatched then just see where it goes from there. This definitely would not be my main source of income as you can only sell so many chickens in a town of 900 hippies :p
But i definitely see what youre saying. Thanks for the advice

Gotcha, you'll do fine.

I feel like I do deal with the right people, that is why I will speak to them in private first. The person messaged me back within two hours, apologized and offered the next set free, no questions asked. That's what I call a great contact

Yes it is. Good for them and you.

Well, that was an exercise in stupidity and pain physically, but mentally it was good. I am frustrated because I am supposed to test on the 27 for my next belt after a year, and I don't know if it will come close to being healed enough :(

Also, think about this. The older the chick, the more they cost. Price goes up weekly.

Let's say that I sell 1000 chicks at a month old out of "goodwill" and they each eat $2.00 worth of feed in that month. That is $2k of money "left on the table". My general dealings with John-q public is this. Cheaper is better, day olds are so cute and they buy more than they planned on. Majority of the public will buy ten $3 day old chicks before they'd ever think about buying three $8 month old chicks that are awkward and ugly as sin. It's all perception. Catch my drift?

That $2k above will roughly buy 15,000 pounds of feed at my place.
On that i will say. If I had 300 hens that were laying I could sell all of them in a week at $15 a piece.I have people calling and texting me everyday for hens that are already laying. I just do't see the return in keeping them that long.

Yep, losing proposition unless you're culling after a couple of molts and replacing.

Right. But then again all true breeders only sell the ones they don't want. Not saying they are bad but not the ones they think are the best. Thats why buy chicks are the best way to go. Might have prizes might have eaten ones.
Excellent point. I'm not really interested in anyone's culls, even though it's like you said, there may not be anything wrong with them. My thinking is the breeder keeps the best, gives his/her buddies first shot at the seconds, and all the rest go to wherever... like flea markets. As very young chicks, it can be difficult to pick the good from the not-so-good, so the buyer has a shot at getting some awesome birds without them being picked over.

How often do they test? It would suck to have to sit it out while the rest of the class advances, but you won't do well if you're in pain and not healed, either. What rank you going for?

Do I need to worry about her not being able to kick herself free because she's in the corner of this basket like this? (She's been at it only about 10 minutes or so. She's pretty grumpy about it, chirping and pushing and huffing and puffing...)
