So I am setting my first hatch this Saturday and I asked a friend to bring me a few of her eggs since she has different breeds... which she did but they are all dirty one is awful and one has what appears to be a crack but not really maybe just the shell. My questions are a) Should I even bother trying to hatch the one that has the slight crack or whatever it is and b) what should I do with the ones that are dirty.. I've seen to wash and let sit and I've seen to not bother cleaning just set. Any help would be greatly appreciated- I'm a newbie to hatching
If it is indeed a crack. Don't set it. As far as the dirty eggs go if there are chunks of mud stuck to them get those off but if not a little dirt never hurt anybody.

If you read back about an hour (don't have the post#) you'll find where Sally is facing this very issue. She posted a paper on the subject. Washing may also be addressed at the front of this thread as well; not sure ATM

settle the eggs after they get to room temp, it depends on how dirty they are. I have had some of my best hatches and dirty eggs. Not total messes but dirty yes! But I will give you the info so you can make your choice on your own.....
throw the cracked one out.......
I forgot to pull this and it started life and then died because I was forgetful
