Shipped eggs I'd let rest for at least 24 hrs prior to putting them in the bator and turner.
I have read it many times, over and over. The article says to treat the normal ones as I would fresh eggs, all of these are pretty good considering they are shipped. Even Papa's with the bigger saddles aren't jiggly. but I am still stuck with which direction to face the saddle, should it go in the direction of turning, so it continues to move about in the dips that are there already, or should the dips face the opposite direction of the turner, or does it matter.....Check out Sally's notes on p.1 regarding shipped eggs; last article in that section. I believe your answer is there.

cross Bird A with Bird B.
the chicks from that mating are the F1. the F stands for filial.

Cross F1 with each other you will end up with F2.

Next step for me is PB Roo with F2 and PB Roo with BC1AI

We have two birds, one the color or variety you are working on with type problems PA), and a very well typed line of another variety (PB).
Make the variety cross PAxPB=F1 generation. this was done to introduce type while ultimately looking for the color of PA.
Select only for type in the F1 birds, those showing some improvement that you are looking for. Cull all others.
Mate F1xF1=F2. You will get some even better typed, some that look like your F1 birds and some of each parent variety. Select the birds showing the most type improvement and demonstrating some or all the color traits of PA.
If you get very typey pullets with most of teh traits you want in the F2, then you can use the F2 Pullets under the male PA to get back more color traits but will loose some type from the PA bird that is not improved.
PAxF2=BC1AI
like to run an additional pen or two with F2xF2=F3.
I like to run to at least the F2 generation before making a back cross for the color, even then I only make that mating for a good cockrell to go back over the F2 females that will reinforce the type while working back to color as well.
BC1AxF2.
That allows for the following mating in the 4th generation
BC1AxF3.
Then you will have selected the F3 for type in F1 birds, Type and some color in F2, Type and some color in F3. The BC1A will have more color and improved type but not as good as the F2 or F3 birds. use the BC1A to bring in teh additional color with type from teh F2 and F3 birds.
So the breeding for type improvement looks like this.
Year 1 PAxPB=F1
Year 2 F1xF1=F2
Year 3 F2xF2=F3 and PAxF2=BC1A
Year 4 F3xBC1A and BC1AxF2,
Year 5 Take pullets from each breeding and mate to cockrells from teh other breeding, after selecting for type and color both.
Can you drop back a few posts to Saris' post re: the saddled AC's & see if Chaos & I told her right? Something's getting lost in translation, I thinkegg to create

If you have steaks Ill get the rest!!good luck! I told the DH I would have steaks thawed if he stopped foron his way home.![]()
@Sally SunshineYes they are sitting and resting now. They will have at least 12 hours of rest time, probably closer to 14, but the first set will have been resting for 48 hours when this set has rested for 12 and I don't want them to get too old...... ^_^

I'm wondering if I'm not explaining myself correctly for people to get a good mental image of what I'm asking....
if eggs are older than 7 days get them to room temp and add to bator, let it still for 12 and then run it, IF YOUR SURE YOUR AIR CELLS DONT MOVE!! if they do, you know the routine! So, I'm thinking all of these egg will be good to set in the auto-turner, there is nothing super jiggly or anything like that. @Sally Sunshine or anyone else, do you think I should leave the turner off for the first day? and for the eggs that have saddle cells should I place the dips parallel to the direction of the turner or perpendicular or does it matter?
I asked for help....Ok, someone near me is trying to give away their white silkie rooster that has sour crop. When I asked her how she was treating it she said this:
So I spoke to Malibu feed and they told me to do a baking soda and water flush. I did it yesterday and put him upside down and massaged his crop and not to be gross but he threw up a ton and I saw big pieces of straw so think that's what caused this.... This morning his crop is 3/4 the size which is awesome. I just picked up anti fungal medicine to give him per the vet and was going to start today just to make sure it's definitely gone. It's up to you if you wanted to pick him up and continue this way or use homeopathic treatments, You are welcome to come today or I can give him this medicine and see how he is in a few days ???
I currently have 3 white hens. I'd get some cute white chicks if I picked him up. What do you think? I told her to keep treating him and let me know how he is doing in a few days.
Going to try a beer run. HAHA![]()
