Oy vey.... I just checked on the chickens, and Jace had gotten herself so dirty! She scratched bedding, FRESH poop, and feed into her water bowl, then dumped that mash into the rest of her bedding, and took a dust bath in the shavings.... Now she is soaked and filthy! :sick

So.... What's the best way to bathe a dirty chicken? just plain water?

Warm bath with mild soap and a good blow dry!

Seriously, she is soaked to the bone and mad as a wet hen!

(And the STINK.... Well, you can imagine what a wet chicken pasted in wet food, shavings, and poop smells like)
I'd get her dried off before I did anything, just to make sure she doesn't get chilled. Beyond that, I really can't help you much...sorry

I bought a GQF-style replacement turner to save time and make sure it worked, but if I were rolling my own, I would get a Linear Actuator and digital timer or microcontroller like an Arduino or Rapsberry Pi.
linear actuator is a good idea
I figured the rotisserie motor was slow enough not to jostle eggs

Could anyone point me in a good direction to read about chicken color genetics?

Sigrid Van Ort's book.

It's pricey but otherwise for a cheap read.
