So my second chick hatched!!!! Only two out of 6 made it. This one is a black Silkie and he/she is tinier then the first one. I had to assist bcause he/she was stuck and couldn't get out. I'm hoping this one makes it.

The first little one.

Question If I put a rooster in with a hen how long will it be till she lays fertile eggs?

To make a long story short, about 3 days or longer depending on how frequently she lays.
If she has already been inseminated by another rooster, it could take 3-4 weeks before all chicks are the new rooster's.

Sperm first resides in the vagina and likely stays there till the next egg squeezes some out so it can travel to the infundibulum where it will fertilize the next ovum. Then it is 23-26 hours till that egg is laid.

Thank you this is what I was wanting.

Edited to add:
The reason I am asking is I am planning to put one of my Rhodebar hens under a Lavender Orpington Roo and was wondering if if they would be ready by the time the Easter hatch along was here

Your best bet is to continue to open eggs till you see a halo. If she was with another rooster prior, that won't help.
It is a Rhodebar hen and she is under a Rhodebar rooster right now but I want to put in with a Lavender Orpington Rooster
