I do keep the battery on a maintainer, but I only use the inverter to run the air pump(it's only 75 watts). If it were 300 watts I could run the whole thing but my heater eats 150 by itself. But 75 watts is enough to run the air pump and the bator. The bad thing is the bigger the inverter, the shorter the time the battery lasts. Another option I considered was using a battery powered air pump for a minnow bucket(they take C or D cells I think). But at least they get aeration. I could run the filter but without heat it would make the water cool more rapidly. If you were gonna have a setup like that I would recommend getting an inverter just slightly larger than what's needed to run the whole tank. It's also nice to be able to run 12v lights when the power is out, but I still like a candle

The light from just the screen of phone is plenty light to find the candle.

Our tank is salt water and the sea horses like it cooler 74* however running the heater to it in the winter is necessary. A short term air fix would be great but it would need to be a strong air pump.

Just a question on layers, got my 2nd egg this morning, it was in the egg box, how long should I leave them in the nest or just take them out 1st thing, clean and put them in the frig.

I know the rooster has been active with the girls I do plan to let nature take it's course at some point. Still new at this kinda thing, still want to know when to leave them be. Yes i'll be using some of the eggs for the house.

I generally check when I open the coop of a morning, then again before the light fades enough that they go to roost of an evening ( I've got a couple who lay in the afternoon, and a couple who roost in the nest boxes); more often during freezing weather to prevent cracking. I'm retired, so have no job to consider, don't recall your particular status.

I don't know... Should I just pull the 2 obviously scrambled ones from the bator? At this point I know I am kinda just leaving them in there to make me feel better... And that's a silly reason to risk exploding eggs..... I'll leave the other one in for another day or two before calling it quits.
What would yall do?

My wife will check for eggs in the morning when she lets the birds out, and again mid afternoon if it's really cold. I'll check again when I go outside to lock them up for the night.

Sounds like the generator is the way to go for you. My tank is freshwater so I don't run any uv sterilizers, chillers, or anything of that nature. Just air heat filter and lights for me. I'd like to have a saltwater tank someday though

Went to close up just before dark last night; all the girls were in, but poor Tucker was still in the run; I guess he wasn't sure of the flock boss. A couple of them always settle down in the doorway & I have to push them in to get the door shut. I schooched them out of the way, picked him up, & put him in; no problem...kinda funny, actually

Sure hope he don't make a habit of it!
