Several weeks ago my neighbors hen got attacked by her dog. The wounds were nasty and deep, so I took her in and tried to help her heal up. Disinfectant, antibiotics, bandages, the works. But I somehow missed the most horrific part of her injury: a deep bite mark right behind her leg.
By the time I found that wound it was already infested with maggots. I spent all evening soaking her in ebsom salt water and picking them off one by one. I did a lot of praying too
But finally I was able to remove all of them, and I could only hope that she'd pull through - and of course that tough little hen did. It started healing up slowly but surely, and now all that's left is a big scab underneath her skin. Here's where I'm worried. I'm scared that since it's such a deep wound that it won't heal properly and she'll just be in pain forever. Right now she still favors that leg, but she can walk around for a good chunk of time - not lethargic either. She's eating plenty. I need some opinions on this.
