INCUBATING w/FRIENDS! w/Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs No problem!

Gonna be one of those days. Went to bed feeling fairly productive. Set up outside brooder for my 19 mixed 5 wk olds, cleaned indoor brooder and set up for my week olds, set up incubator and put the shipped eggs in, cleaned big coop and changed out bedding/dusted nest boxes, and other randomness that I'm forgetting about.

Woke up this morning and the incubator didn't come back up to temp. Hasn't been above 95. I'm using a different thermometer but not sure if I trust it. The STC thermostat is set to 100. Actually I mixed things up quite a bit this go around so we will see how it goes. If temp is still down this afternoon I will tinker with it

Walked outside and the closer I got to the brooder pen the uglier it got. Fresh dirt on both ends. Rough guess is something got about half of them. Seemed like it was secure but dosent look like 1/2" hardware cloth is going to work. Didn't tear it loose or get through it but somehow managed to get at least some of the birds out. 3 dead in pen mangled and 2 injured but still alive and eating and drinking.

Plan forward is to move the brooder pen into my shed and hope that goes better.

Ehhh. Getting really tired of this part of it.

Oh my!

Lotsa folks end up using a shed. Works great for brooding

I need the right combination of a single cup and a carafe brewer. I'm also tempted by a on -board steam wand. But I also like the ones that will foam your milk and add syrup for you.

I usually just like a little bit of coffee with my sugar...

LOL. I drink it black. Adding sugar makes it dessert.

My cuisinart maker sure does a great job!

I need more coffee myself! I first read that as "My cabinet maker sure does a great job!", and I'm wondering where in the world did that come from  :lau

I'm the only crazy one that really thinks it's a good idea to use an incubator for drinking coffee. I haven't tried a cabinet incubator yet.

So i have been contemplating a new incubator because of taxes and starting my Ayam Cemani breeding. I am going to be working towards standard of perfection so I want the best possible one for the best possible deal. I was looking at cabinet if not a large brinsea. Any pros and cons to cabinet vs large brinsea.
who are you people that get money back at tax time???? I work my butt off 60 hours a week for just less than $13 an hour take no deductions and usually get or owe around 200.
No offense meant it is just frustrating as I saw someone come in a couple of years ago who earned 18,000 and had a couple of kids. By the time she got this handout (credit) and that credit and I paid taxes and got nothing she took home more than I did.

Well I totally see your point, it does sound like you need someone else to be doing your taxes. You should be getting a little bit more than that back. Are you getting per diem? Deducting all of your truck supplies? Don't forget that even your laptop is a business expense. If for any reason you're not sure of everything you can deduct, I do have a list somewhere I can PM you. I assume that you're already aware of the list though. On the other hand, my husband has been driving for 34 years and didn't know about half the stuff.

Yes, and Yes

Yes, and Yes

What flavor dogs, Mike?  Border Collie

Icelandic Sheepdogs

I thought Akita too.

 If they are Fully Feathered at 5 weeks you done good.
These are my first two batches of chicks so I am still not sure what fully feathered exactly is. I see feathers all over them and no fuzzy. Maybe I need to look at the bottom side.
Thanks for the help.

How's your farm LoKo?
:lau The backyard chicken/quail farm is nuts! The farm I help on is doing great!!!
My farm is crazy too. I had a little meltdown yesterday. I've been doing everything out there, but DH thought I was loving it. I've been stressed because I can't stay on top of farm and house and everything else. Feeding baby animals is more important than keeping the house clean.
Ok so i have never susesfully hatched a chicken or any other poultry(i also never susesfully learned to spell but thats a diffrent story) and i found some ayam cemani eggs on a website for sale and was wondering how stupid it would be to buy them. 1 being the dumbest 1098 being enistein.
I agree with everyone else. Check fb or craigslist for eggs if you don't have any friends with birds. Try for $5 a dozen or less. A lot of yard eggs are fertile, just check and see!

So sorry! What goes through half inch hardware cloth?

Morning @campingshaws

Morning Dax! :frow

usually the neck/head is the last to feather in

My honas are 6 weeks tomorrow and mostly feathered. Little bed head fuzz on their heads and pin feathers in the body. I'm moving them out in three days. Their brooder is already outside, but I'm moving them to the coop.

I would love to see it, bit as a local company driver with their phone I can't find much to deduct other than giving, taxes, and mortgage.
