Good luck with your new eggs!!!![]()
Never understood why people candle eggs under a broody... she usually knows how the eggs are doing, and will often kick out the bad ones. I think it's more curiosity mixed with a little anxiousness that causes people to do that...
Don't want to burst your bubble, but you ain't no youth no moreI thought experience trumps youth any day...![]()
They've only been doing it for a few millennium... they might have it down pat by now.My husband has always said, when it comes to broody hens, they know what they're doing, let nature take its course and let them be.![]()
Is it weird that the two hens swap nests? One has 6 eggs on day 9 (I THINK) and the other has 2 that are on day 5. It seems like the both like the full nest, they both get up at the same time and whoever is fastest gets to sit on the bigger stack of eggs. Do chickens STAY broody for just enough time for a batch to hatch? Or do they stay as long as there are eggs under them?Thats it, its just because we're noseyI can't help it, I have to check. None of my hens kick out infertile eggs, so I pull them. I only candle broody eggs once, at day 7, then its hands off.![]()
That's a lot better than most. A lot of people candle just like they're incubating them... day 7, day 14, day 18, and sometimes a few days in between!Thats it, its just because we're noseyI can't help it, I have to check. Compare to you, everyone is still yout.....Don't want to burst your bubble, but you ain't no youth no more![]()
that is the one on the thread. I raised the lamp and put the 100 w lamp in the other corner in case one burns out. The thermometer still shows 88.I must have not found the one Ant Farm bought. I bought a large pad since I had 15 older chicks and didn't want them to be too crowded. This is what I used:
