My post office saga continues....this time it isn't for hatching eggs.  It's about my daughter's medication which she needs twice a day, at the same time each day - she can NOT miss a dose....
I ordered it, the mail order company we use said it would be shipped within 3 days, do you have enough to cover you.  I had enough for a week.  That week goes by.  I'm OUT, I called again (last Sunday), they say it was sent UPS ground and we should have it by Thursday (yesterday).  I had to call her neurologist, get a new prescription sent to a local pharmacy.  They wouldn't fill it, since I already a 3 month supply that was just filled.  I had to call the insurance company to authorize a 7 day supply.  I picked it up last Sunday evening.  Yesterday afternoon, I checked the UPS tracking #.  It shows it was delivered to the USPS for delivery.

Now, UPS drives up my driveway and drops packages off at the front door.  My post office does not.

Yesterday, I called the post office to see if I could pick up the package.  They said it wasn't in their system yet.  I said UPS shows it was delivered.  She said packages sit out back until the PO closes then they sort the UPS packages.  She said to check the tracking # after 7:30 and I should input divert instructions to have the package put on the supervisors desk.  I checked every 15 minutes until I went to bed at midnight, it was never updated.  It wasn't undated until 9:30 this morning.  At that time, I tried to input divert instructions and the system told me there wasn't sufficient time to change the delivery.  So, we went by the post office when they opened.  They told us the box was out for delivery.  If it did not fit in the box, they would leave a green delivery notice and we could bring that back tomorrow to pick up the medicine.

There are instructions in the sorting room at my post office to prevent ANY packages going out for delivery to my address.  The box NEVER should have gone out for delivery.  Yet, I still have to wait 24 hours to pick up something that should have been delivered on Thursday.  How inept can not one but TWO companies be?

FYI I found out that 30% of Fed EX and UPS small packages they outsource to the USPS.

Sorry about the rant!!!!
been there done though not with a med. One of my favorite was an overnight package I called about when it was shipped and I tried to get without it going out They never delivered it on Saturday. Since it was NFL tickets Monday was useless. When I confronted them and filed a claim they said they did not know what house was mine. I like on a quarter mile dead end road with only three houses on the right. They said they tried to call to see if I was home and it was busy so they did not drive back (days of land lines). BTW my house is marked in two places my corner post and car port are marked, and the fire department has a number in the ground.

Philadelphia Snapper Soup!!

Turtle Soup Recipe courtesy of Commander's Palace Total Time: 2 hr 20 min Prep: 30 min Cook: 1 hr 50 min Yield: 5 servings Level: Intermediate Ingredients 1 1/2 sticks butter 2 1/2 pounds turtle meat, cut into medium dice* Salt and freshly cracked pepper 2 medium onions, cut into medium dice 6 stalks celery, cut into medium dice 30 cloves garlic, minced 3 bell peppers, cut into medium dice 1 tablespoon dried thyme, ground 1 tablespoon dried oregano, ground 4 bay leaves 2 quarts veal stock 1 cup all-purpose flour 26 ounces dry sherry (750-ml bottle) 1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce 2 large lemons, juiced 3 cups peeled, chopped, and seeded tomatoes 10 ounces fresh spinach, stems removed, washed 3 times, and roughly chopped 6 medium hard-boiled eggs, chopped into large pieces Add Checked Items To Grocery List Directions *Cook's Note: We use alligator snapping turtles, which are a farm-raised fresh water species available all year long. Turtle meat usually comes in 2 1/2-pound portions. In a large soup pot over medium to high heat, melt 1/2 stick butter. Add turtle meat and brown. Season, to taste, with salt and pepper. Cook for about 18 to 20 minutes or until liquid is almost dry. Add onions, celery, garlic, and peppers, constantly stirring. Add thyme, oregano, and bay leaves and saute for about 22 minutes**. Add stock, bring to a boil, and simmer for 30 minutes. Skim any fat that comes to the top. While stock is simmering, make the roux. In a small saucepan, melt remaining butter over medium heat. Slowly add flour, a little at a time, constantly stirring with a wooden spoon. Be careful not to burn. After all of the flour has been added, cook until roux smells nutty, is pale in color, and has a consistency of wet sand, about 3 minutes. Set aside to let cool until soup is ready (roux should be cool when adding to hot soup). Using a whisk, stir the roux into the stock vigorously, adding a little at a time to prevent lumping. Simmer for about 25 minutes. Stir to prevent sticking on bottom. Add sherry and bring to a boil. Add hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer and skim any fat or foam that comes to top. Add lemon juice and tomatoes and return to a simmer. Add spinach and eggs, return to a simmer and adjust seasoning. **Cook's Note: Caramelizing vegetables and meats very will to get the dark color you are looking for. ***Cook's Note: This is like a stew, eaten as a main dish. This soup freezes well.

Wow, that is AWFUL! I'm still trying to track down a package that Amazon sent to me, unfortunately instead of sending it to California - where I live, they sent it to Utah. I had them send a new package, they say they sent it, they promised to give me tracking info, but I'm pretty sure they sent it to Utah again, since I never got it. That's Amazon, not USPS or UPS. But, still frustrating.

I actually had it happen with two medications a few days ago. It should have arrived three weeks ago, but I wasn't really thinking about it until I needed it on the fifth. I called the mail order pharmacy, and they said that the post office has sent it to an alternate address. Still haven't figured that one out! Fortunately, they overnighted a replacement and FedEx brought it to the house.

CALIBRATION!

YES! It’s IMPORTANT!

Calibrate the thermometer/s you are using for your Incubator. I use 3 thermometers! You need to make sure your thermometer is reading correctly, Even one degree may cause serious problems with your hatch! A simple method without specialized instruments and knowledge is to compare your thermometer/hygrometer with other devices.
HOW TO CALIBRATION of thermometers:

Freezing point method.

Fill a glass with crushed ice. Add a LITTLE clean water until the glass is full and stir. Wait 3 minutes then insert the thermometer tip into the ice-filled glass so it’s in the water ice mixture. Wait a minute and if the thermometer reads 32 F then it’s accurate, and if it does not, it requires calibration.
Boiling point method.

Boil water in a pot, about 6” deep. When the water is at boiling point, place the thermometer into the water and make sure that the tip stays in the middle of the boiling pot, away from bottom and sides. Wait 30 seconds and check if the thermometer reads correctly at 212 degrees if you are at sea level or below 1,000 feet elevation. The boiling point of water varies for different elevations: sea level at 212 F, 1000 feet at 210 F, 2000 feet at 208 F, 3000 feet at 206.4 F, 5000 feet at 202.75 F, and 8,000 feet at 197.5 F. The thermometer needs calibration if the reading is incorrect. Boiling Point Calculator CLICK HERE
Calibrate the Digital Thermometer

Adjust the nut of the digital thermometer in order to correct the temperature. This is done by simply turning the adjuster until the correct reading is reached. Digital thermometers do not require any adjustment of a screw or nut. You simply need to locate the reset button. When the freezing point or boiling point of water is achieved, simply push the button and that’s it. Some digital thermometers may require you to push hold the reset button.
CALIBRATION EASY WAY

What To Do If Your Thermometer Is Inaccurate

When testing a thermometer for accuracy, all you're trying to do is make sure that your unit is not grossly out of whack. You should be worried about being off by +/-20°F, not +/-2°F. If your testing shows that your thermometer is off by only a few degrees, don't do anything—just take those few degrees into account when reading your thermometer. It should be noted that even high-quality, industrial-grade thermometers are only accurate to +/-1% of their scale. This means that at a standard 212°F boiling point, these thermometers may read as much as 2°F above or below the actual temperature and still be within manufacturing specifications. Bottom line: Don't sweat your thermometer being off by a few degrees!
If your thermometer is off by +/-5°F or more, you may want to consider replacing it with a higher quality model. S
Inexpensive thermometers typically cannot be recalibrated if found to be inaccurate, but more expensive units may be recalibrated by the manufacturer and in some cases by the user. Consult the instructions that came with your thermometer for details.

More information on Calibrating your thermometer/hygrometer:

Analog hygrometer Calibration http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/pages/calibrate.html

hygrometer calibration Benny's method
1. You calibrate 2 simple alcohol thermometers see pic.

2 you should build an home made hygrometer see pic! It is very easy!

3. You should have the digital hygrometer that you want to calibrate.
M.O
A.Set you incubator to 30C with a measuring cup with a known volume of distilled water put inside the home made hygrometer and the digital hygrometer and measure the humidity in boat devices( how to measure in the home made hygrometer, see the attache in the end!) write the reeding of the humidity level
In boat devices.
Do the same another 3 times but change the temp in the bator to: 35C,40C and 45C. So after you do that you will have 4 humidity level measured by the home made hygrometer and 4 humidity level measured by the digital hygrometer.
B. After you have all the readings you should calculate the delta( difference) between the 2 reedings
For example :
If in 30C the home made hygrometer showed 53% and the digital showed 51%
The difference is
53%-51%=(+)2%
You should do this with all the different temp. That you measured.
C.you should sum all the differences that you calculated
For example:
If the deltas were: 2%,3.4%(-2%),3%
The sum will be: 2+3.4-2+3=6.4
D,you should calculate the average difference:
(6.4)%:4= (+)1.6%
That Menes that you should add to your digital readings 1.6% humidity.
If the calculated average is negative ( has a minus in front of it) you should reduce
The number from your digital hygrometer readings!
How to measure with home made hygrometer:
You should reed the temp of the dry thermometer, and the one of the wet thermometer, calculate the difference( dry-wet) and use the table in the link!

Some examp. From the link

picture to illustrate why we calibrate.

All the same brand. All read the same a month ago. All in the same conditions for the past week. All read different.
I also will be investing in a thermometer with tenths digits to compare to my thermostat.

Mix 1/2 cup of salt and 1/4 cup of water to make a thick slurry. Put your thermometer/hygrometer into a large zip-close plastic bag with this cup of salt slurry, close completely, and leave at room temperature for several hours or overnight. Do not let the water actually touch the hygrometer. If at the end of this time the relative humidity inside the bag is 75%, you're home free. (You should read it while it is still in the closed bag, because the second you take it out, the humidity in your house will begin to affect the reading.)

If the humidity is higher or lower, however, you will need to make a note of the % by which the hygrometer deviates, and always remember to mentally add or subtract that percentage during incubation to maintain the desired humidity: For example, if your humidity reading is 80%, you must always subtract 5% from whatever you see on the hygrometer. If it says 40%, you will know the real humidity is 35%.
