Ok humidity is at 30 percent temp at 100.
But I am using Uncalibrated equipment what brand of thermometer / humidifier should I get. Does it matter ? Do they all have to be calibrated?

I have the MHP in there, but they won't go under and they seem happy, so whatever floats their boat...

Remember that they came from a feed store. That means they've been out in the open, running around under the lamp. It's what they're used to. So you may have to tuck them under there a few times. Hold your hand in front so they don't squirt right back out. You want them to realize that "there's the heat!!" Then tonight when the room goes dark (no nightlights!) tuck them in, hold your your hand in front, and when you hear those sweet little "churling", contented sounds, you'll know they're going to sleep. If they really won't stay under there, you might pop the heat down a notch - it might be too warm.

The beauty of the MHP system is that they learn that there are natural day/night cycles, and that once the sun goes down their eyelids should too. I love that they sleep all night then wake up in the morning with the sunrise, ready to face the day. One of the things I hate about heat lamps (among a million others) is that chicks are awake around the clock, expending some of the energy they could be using to feather out and grow. I know folks think that "death sleep" - where they are running like crazy and then just drop in place, legs and necks extended in sleep, is so cute. I think it's dumb. Sorry, but what it says to me is that the chicks ran themselves into total exhaustion until they simply couldn't go one more step. And the chicks never seem to sleep at the same time - there's always a few still awake and tearing around, and they either stomp on the sleeping ones or start pecking at them. So that's the end of that 10 minute nap. That's a lot different than going under MHP, snuggling down and softly dozing off for the night.

I have issues y'all lol ...our chicks came from Meyer today but TSC got some too...what's 10 more?!!

I did that, and now they are all sleeping peacefully with the occasional chirp. So happy! :love
