Albon Albon 5% Oral Suspension is  Each tsp (5 ml) contains 250 mg Sulfadimethoxine.

go to TSC get a generic dont wait!

Albon susoension is just 5% sulfadimethoxine, so anything that's sulfadimethoxine will work.

Albon is prescription only, but DiMethox is not and a couple others are not. DiMethox comes as an injectable, liquid and powder.

  • Albon Solution= 5% = 50 mg per ml
  • Dimethox Solution = 12.5% = 125 mg per ml
  • Dimethox injectable = 40% = 400 mg per ml
  • Dimethox powder = one teaspoon probably weighs about 3 grams - will do the math on this one later.

In the meantime, can you dose him with a Corid drench? If you have the liquid, give 0.02ml undiluted per 100 grams orally. If you have powder, mix 1/2 teaspoon with 10 ml of water and give 0.07 ml per 100 grams orally. Give drench for 1-3 days in addition to his medicated water.

  • Powder - no less than 1.5 teaspoons per gallon for 5 days, then 1/3 teaspoon for 7-14 days. Ignore any post that says to use less, 'cause it's wrong, lol.

  • Liquid - 2 teaspoons per gallon for 5 days, then 1/2 teaspoon for 7-14 days.

Make a mash using the medicated water and his crumbles, that might be a good way to get more food, water and medication into him.

Thanks for all your tips guys. I'm trying to get back in touch with the vet to see what I can do since I can't get the sulfadimethoxine until Tuesday at the earliest. I'm gonna try and see if he will give directions on corrid powder or sulmet dosages for oral delivery.

You can tell him that Corid Powder weighs 2.7 to 3 grams per teaspoon and it's 200 mg per gram. The severe outbreak dose for poultry is 20mg/kg, twice what it is for cattle. Corid is *very* safe, almost impossible to OD one on.

1/2 teaspoon has 270 to 300 mg amprolium, so add 10 of water and you have 10 ml of water with 270-300 mg amprolium, so it's weight in kg, times 20 mg/kg, divide by 27 mg/ml or 30 mg/ml. The number I use is 27.

100 grams looks like this: .1 x 20 / 27 = 0.07 ml

I want to thank you. I recently had a hen that got a nasty worm (she got very bad) and I was unable to get the valbazen, so I got the safeguard liquid and dosed as you suggested in another thread(can't remember which one). She's made a drastic turn-around and looks better everyday. I just wanted to say I appreciate all of the time you put into calculating dosages, and research you have done in treating avian ailments. I think you are invaluable here, and you made my stressful situation much easier. Thanks![/CONTENTEMBED]

Glad your hen is doing better! Thanks for complimentary post.

I am wanting to get some geese to add to our farm, any suggestions? I need something that won't fly because it will be in open top pen during the day. Also something that isn't aggressive to the family, I have twin 4 year olds that help feed everything.

Does anyone know if this is a true statement

Wait. Are chocolate Orpingtons dun (I^d/i+) or sex-linked recessive chocolate (choc)?

in the USA most are Dun based, in the UK the are recessive sex link choc
