I only have 2 fertile marans eggs in the bator. They are my last chance at getting a dark egg layer. Fingers are crossed.
Best of luck with the two! I'll help....

Quote: Dumbledore is a wonderful rooster, and has never bit or attacked me, but he has started occasionally rushing the side of the coop when I walk by (he's a wee bit more high strung since the dog attack). On advice from the person from whom I got him (based on his daddy's behavior, very similar), I keep a bike water bottle by the coop - he gets a big face full of squirted water if he does it. (It was hysterical when I first did it - I've never seen a rooster look so humiliated and confused before). It works VERY well, and I don't have to try to round him up or get into any sort of escalating "who's the boss" nonsense. Snape only taps me (very lightly) if I'm snuggling with the girls in the coop and he misunderstands a movement toward one of them to pick them up. But I always assume that for any of my roosters, the hens come first and I am a distant second. I am careful not to carelessly seem to startle or bug the hens if I can help it.

So sorry to hear about the injury - it really turns your day upside down, I know. Here's to her speedy recovery!!!

@Sally Sunshine
Candled tonight. Day 8. I tossed 10/15. 5 clear with rolling air cells, 5 blood rings. 5 are still cooking in the MacGyverbator. Each looks okay but I know it's an uphill battle I face with shipped eggs.

I got the Pleasant Row Incubator 2.0 (the new fridge incubator will be known as the PRI 2.0 - Pleasant Row is the name of my farm) up to temp and humidity. I set 13 eggs from my flock which has had spotty fertility, today. 4 BCM crosses, 4 CCL crosses, and 5 mystery eggs from my mixed hens. I expect 12 shipped eggs to arrive on Monday. :fl this goes smoothly. I'm working out kinks in the turner, as usual, but I'm happy with the plan so far.

I can get some vetricyn tomorrow, I'm out. Used it all on the horses. I can't wrap it, if I try from the front she can't walk, if I try from the rear it slides off. I'm using equine vet wrap, no luck. The only one messing with it is her, she didn't really bleed, and it's under her wing so the others haven't noticed. I hope she is ok, I worry about cat claw bacteria. :(

I would not try to cover it, but would try to isolate her for a day or 2.
Birds are remarkably resistant to infection.

One of my first chickens was a Silkie (many many years ago). A raccoon got to her and clean ripped off her wing at the shoulder and a strip of skin from her chest. I knew nothing back then and assumed she would die. She laid an egg the next day and healed up extremely well with no care except TLC. She we t on to laying daily for years and brooded several sets of chicks!
