The only question I have is how heavy ga. wire to go from STC to power supply, and heat source. I'm using triple tap, b/c that's what's handy. That way, if I need to install an other fan, I'll have a ready outlet. My first build was similar, but used a bimetal thermostat. Hoping the STC will be more reliable, and the overall design will provide more consistent heat levels throughout the box.
I would say the wires on the extra triple taps you have would be plenty sufficient, but if you want a number, I would use stranded copper 16 ga. all the way.

I pulled him out of his shell in warm water. He is barely breathing and getting worse. Anything I can do to keep him alive at this point?

Around 30 hours of being pipped for these two chicks... Cheeping really loud, and made some progress with pipping, but I'm wondering if they just can't get out either. They both talk a LOT.

Did you remove shell pieced from around the pipped hole?

I always leave the bits in situ as pretty sure it help to retain moisture in the membranes and stops them drying out, as it keeps the hole a bit smaller.

The second egg looks like it may be starting to unzip.

@casportpony

Well that was easier than I figured on!
I found everybody inside the 4x12 run; didn't have to herd any unwilling souls where they didn't want to go. Me & Mr. Landing net went in & were able, eventually, to grab the target hen, without the net, mind you, as she tried to fly past me to the far end. From there it was a simple matter to get her into a small dog crate. All I have to do now is wait for her to poop.

Much to my surprise, the local vet will do a fecal exam for chickens! Taking a sample in tomorrow.

Didn't try to examine her for mites or lice yet; that'll keep 'til tomorrow morning, when she's a bit calmer.

Thanks so much for the help & advice.

No, they were shipped and the air cells were dipped off on one side, which makes me think they can't move anywhere. The second egg died a few minutes ago.

Can I syringe feed him with something? Can I do anything?
I'm sorry Mirajane, any chick that was so weak that it couldn't get out of the shell, after I helped, died. No matter what I did to help them. I don't think it's anything you did by helping him, I just think it probably isn't strong enough to survive. How many hatched successfully?.

:frow How are you this morning?
Just finer than frog hair. Yourself?
:frow Morning Pensmaster!
All is well here. Coolerbator holding steady scarily steady. Sun isn't up yet. Neighbor isn't shooting this am. Apparently a raccoon was the problem yesterday morning at 4:00 am.
@Pensmaster Why do you say scarily steady? Mine have barely any flux :idunno
What does pasty butt look like? I know pics have been posted here, but I can't seem to find anything in the notes referring to it. One of my hens has a collection of dried poop in the feathers; noticed it yesterday. She was looking a bit rough last night @ bedtime, with her feathers looking like someone had brushed her backward, but she looked perfectly fine just now when I turned them all out for the day, except for the crud on her backside. Eating kept turning with me whenever I'd try to get behind her. Any chance that she's just sloppy, or is it probably something to be concerned about? My hens aren't what you'd call tame, so picking her up for a close-up pic is not an option. If this is, in fact, pasty butt, is it contagious? Is there some medication I could put in the feed or water to treat them all? What causes it? @casportpony
