nope never seen that one

Wrong thread to not have a coolerbator!!

lol
The eggs are here! Sorry for the monster post but here they are...

I probably missed a couple in there, but this is one of mine (I'm not hatching it)

In my opinion, these eggs arrived too dirty. I also think they look very porous. They all arrived unbroken and no cracks, and all of the air cells are still attatched, with only 2 slightly wiggly. A couple eggs had what appears to be dried yolk from a broken egg (but no broken eggs).
Any thoughts?
They will be fine

I have been told that my comments about vaccines were hurtful. That was not my intention at all, and I am very sorry if they came across that way. I have edited/deleted all of my posts on the matter.

you didnt hurt me, everyone is entitled to their opinion, part of life, we all have them and we all read about others opinions. just like jokes, you dont like them dont read them. yer good Kristin, your a great person, carry on!

I am running in to the same problem!  I would say that you should post the photos in the What breed or Gender thread....

https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

I have gotten lots of responses when I post there.

They really are pretty!!  How old is your rooster/hen EE?  If it hasn't started crowing or mounting the girls, do you have a problem keeping it until it does?  Mine is a couple weeks older than yours (I think)  and it's mounting anything that will stay still.  He has been crowing for over 2 months.  He is very much a rooster.

Good luck!!
I tried the other thread and so far only got one response. She wanted to say they were not any of the breeds I bought. I doubt that.
Since the EE thread really thinks that OE is a pullet and they will be 15 weeks on Friday (Christmas hatch) I will wait a couple of more weeks and see. Especially since it does not crow or mount and my ten week old CCL are making strangled sounds that might someday get to crows :)
Thanks, good luck with yours.

Questions for you!

What bator are you using? Little Giant

where they shipped or your own eggs/local eggs? Shipped eggs = Change of plans Shipped, already changed plans.
How old were the eggs at set? 3 days
They were stored and turned cool conditions? 24 hour set, at room temp, not turned. Loose air cells.
Have you misted or washed the eggs? No.
How old is your flock? eggs are on day 8
Turner or no turner? No turner, Manual.
Incubated Air cell Upright or horizontal?? Incubating with wide end up, in cartons. Being rotated 1/4 turn anywhere from 3 to 5 times a day. Cartons are elevated on one side between 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.

Fan or no Fan? Fan added. Incubator is a still air.

You know temps should be different for Fan vs still air models? If I go back and review the sections, yes. I have that stuff written down now.
You calibrated thermo hygros and know not to rely on the one that came with the bator? I have a digital thermo/hygro, and a spring type combo. I use both.

You have more than one thermo hygro and they had been calibrated? I do use more than one, they haven't been calibrated.

You have rotated your eggs around the bator at candles? Yes,

The 9 eggs seem to be doing ok. 3 are clear, but I won't make a decision to pitch them till day 10 at least. the other 6 are all veining out well.

I still have 3 with rather jiggly air cells, hence the reason I still have them more upright in cartons and rotating them an odd number of times per day. The air cells are small tho. My assumption is too high of humidity....

We are on the MO/KS border, more or less, and we've had rain a few days, and then lots of wind, causing our dehumidifier to run on occasion, If the weather is messing with our air, then it has to have an affect on the bator, I'd think. I have a small butter tub of water in there with a wash rag hanging out a bit for a wick. I have a jar and sponge in there too. If I take out the tub and wash rag, then the humitidy drops to less than 35% mostly.

So my question was what is a good humidity range, since the air sacs are still small? Does reducing the humidity = a larger air cell?

Thanks everyone, still kinda new to this.

That's a real shame

He had a great run, though. He was scheduled to play the casino @ Charlestown next month, too
I'm fearing the same news for Willie

RIP, Merle
He did indeed have a great run. They don't make them like they used to that's for sure.

RIP Merle, you'll be missed.
