Hi everyone!
Hey, I just noticed that I've been upgraded to platinum! How cool is that? Not sure how that happened, guess I need to ask a mod?
-Kathy
Congrats.

I'm trying to set up my incubator, I had a cheap Farm innovator, never used it, fired it up, got it temperature stabilised pretty easy, than decided after reading to add the fan and a Turner.
Now it seems the temperature is different all over the incubator depending on where the thermometer or probe is positioned, ranges from 99 to 101, 102 under the fan motor. It was recommended to add extensions to the sides but I'd rather not if I can avoid it, is it normal for it to do this? Should I remove the fan kit? Maybe position the eggs only in certain areas, 3 weeks before my eggs come.
Thanks for any advice, I usually use a chicken to do this but this year I wanted to give it a go.

Quote: Thanks! Hey, you have a GFM, but no GFM title. I think you need a title!

I know that the turner motor will create a hot spot, from the reading I've done. I have a styrofoam box, home made bator with computer fan and 2 light bulbs controlled with a thermostat (bimetal). I had to put all kinds of air baffles in it, as well as poke a few extra ventilation holes here and there to stabalize it, and still have to rotate eggs throughout all quadrants of the box to optimize temp variation so all eggs get warmer/cooler spots. I do this by hand turning in cartons or with eggs laying flat. The new bator I just made seems to have a much more powerful fan. I had to put a baffle to blow the intake air across the bulbs. I was in too much of a hurry to set eggs, so did no further air modification, but will certainly do so after this hatch.I'm trying to set up my incubator, I had a cheap Farm innovator, never used it, fired it up, got it temperature stabilised pretty easy, than decided after reading to add the fan and a Turner.

There are similar ones hereI'm making my own bator out of an old freezer. Any suggestions or tips?
Thanks, after doing some more reading, the whole stuff at the beginning of the thread, which I will keep reading for a few days, I think I might be having troubles because my room air temperature is only about 60, we don't keep our house hot enough for 70 degrees as recommended, I'm going to try putting the plugs back in like it says to do for the first 10 days, maybe that will help, I think it's pulling in the cooler air too much and creating zones.I know that the turner motor will create a hot spot, from the reading I've done.
