I sold ten roosters I had.and came home with some chicks.two blueMMarans or orpingtons I'm not shore how to tell the diffence.three barnyard mixes and three Cochin.
Good job.
not sure

is it a Maran or orpington
Unless it is a blue or lavender orpington, I'd say Maran.

I tried raising meal worms a few years ago, for fish bait. Bedded them in oatmeal, which was also their food source. Most of the seed stock was found in chicken manure, some was leftover bait, which was larger than the wild variety. I gave up after they ate their way out of their container; raising meal worms in styrofoam containers is NOT a good idea!

Don't feel bad. I made the mistake of keeping a feeder mouse from the pet store in its cardboard carry home box overnight. Luckily it was on the back porch and not the house. I would have been dead meat for that trick. It took me weeks to catch it.

I had them in the basement; cool in summer & warm in winter, thanks to the whole-house wood stove
My sister and I joined up with my dad on an earthworm farm. It took up half of his basement.

Maybe I could keep them under sub floor of house. If it was only easier to get to.

Almost everyone here have full basements, even under 150 year old homes. Crawl spaces are a pain. I had to do some plumbing under my dad's rental home and a friend's home. I hate crawling through spider webs.

I mean that porcelain one for an adult and breeder show it will run u about 20 or more per bird some people charge 20 per chick that's why I am getting eggs so it will be cheaper including shipping cost

Isn't plastic sheeting relatively inexpensive?  I've not built one, ever, but I might build a couple; one for a small greenhouse & one for a hoop coop for a covered run for the coop I'm building for my young stock; seems a whole lot simpler than posts & wire on this sloping, rocky ground I'm camped on. I'd need some guidance for the ends, but that's what Jack is for; he built one.
@LocalYokel

Once you have your hoops done and wire laid over the top and secured.....

Cheater way is to put some plywood directly against the ends and trace the outline.

Again, I'm not seeing any other signs of Cocci, but the chicks did have access to wet feed. Should I treat everyone or wait for the necropsy results from the first dead chick?

Thanks!!
Your best bet is to just keep the bedding bone dry and feeders at least half full.

LOL, I had red wigglers in a worm bin. I picked them up in a paper lunch sack. Something that ate through Styrofoam would give me nightmares!!!!
Chickens eat through Styrofoam. Do they give you nightmares?

Thanks! I also understand that certain forms, depending on what portion of the intestinal tract is affected, will permanently affect the egg laying ability of a pullet.

Yeah, I was wondering whether I should get some of that (have read that being used with other sick birds). Would I find it at PetSmart? I need to go get a long garden hose anyway, can get it while I'm out...

- Ant Farm
Kaytee should be at pet stores.

If picking up the worms is the problem try these they work really well. Don't know about meal worms but earthworms for sure

Also I was wondering about the wood chips. It seems like ant farm is using them too.

Or wear gloves.

I was exhausted after my chicken class. But, I got up at 3 to mist all the fruit trees and stopped for 'All You Can Eat' sushi on the way home. I wanted a nap and it was only 4:30.
