My @ quote is not working on my phone....grrrr

Kathy (Cartspony?), you asked for a poop pic. The lighter chick is gimpy, the brown, normal. I'm not sure who's poo is whose

Good job.
not sure

Unless it is a blue or lavender orpington, I'd say Maran.

Don't feel bad. I made the mistake of keeping a feeder mouse from the pet store in its cardboard carry home box overnight. Luckily it was on the back porch and not the house. I would have been dead meat for that trick. It took me weeks to catch it.

My sister and I joined up with my dad on an earthworm farm. It took up half of his basement.

Almost everyone here have full basements, even under 150 year old homes. Crawl spaces are a pain. I had to do some plumbing under my dad's rental home and a friend's home. I hate crawling through spider webs.

I hate the subfloors also. My plumbing needed fixed due to the electrolysis happening from the main electric wire pressed against the main water line under the house. Long story on that. In the process of fixing it crawling under the house with just enough room to turn over I managed to catch the dust from the former owners dryer vent on fire. Now the flash fire went from my torch to the opening to get out. Thought of dying instantly crossed my mind. Fortunately the same reasons I was under the house the insulation was wet. Putting out all spot fires I crawled back out.
The plumbing has been fixed and the dryer no longer vents under the house.
The former owners name is Richard. I've called him his nickname many times here sometimes loud enough for my neighbors to hear. Of course that brings them to ask what did he do now. :lau

OK, I have the Kaytee baby food. Instructions are straightforward, but I have different options given per age of baby (parrot). Hatch-2 days (1 part food to 6 parts water), 2-5 days (1 part to 2-3 parts water) and 5 days to weaning (1 part to 1-1/3-2 parts water). Any input on this? I was thinking using 1 part food to 3 parts water. It recommends generally that each meal should be 10-12% body weight (so I would aim for 7.5 ml - ish, I suppose).

Do you know DPO? Dreaded previous owner.

:lau no but Dick helps the frustration level much better. We had a well for which he ran direct bury wire over the top of the soil. One day we didn't have water. Power left the box but didn't reach the well. That's when I found the wire run over land and an inside junction box not sealed. Wire nuts were upside down collecting water. Yep corrosion plus. Apparently he had run over it with his mower and "fixed it"

Quote: Yup - and when I cleaned out the brooder yesterday (it was due anyway, but especially with the baby with probable cocci), I discovered that they had spilled a decent bit of water into the bedding and I had missed it (tracking under the dry stuff). That would do it...

awesome!! hope your feeling well Kristin!! Also that stuff molds very quickly and that will cause major issues too! I AM feeling better today, thank you. Slowly better. Been doing laundry and kitchen chores, and cooking some eggs for the chickens and chicks. About to head out to finish mowing before it rains, then plant the blackberries in that new spot.

The chick is about the same - no better, no worse. Cannot stand at all or use its legs - makes me wonder about the mold thing. (Mercifully all other chicks are perfectly fine.) I will continue to tend it for now, but am starting to get the sinking feeling that I will end up needing to cull it (if not to end suffering, then for the good of my breeding program). But I will give it a shot - and I always learn something when I tend a sick chick/en even if it doesn't make it.
@@Fire Ant Farm , the purple on the belly could be the color of his intestines showing through. Make sense? Google coccidiosis in poultry photos and I think you see what I mean.

Drench for the whole 5 days is probably fine if he's not drinking enough.

-Kathy
That's what I suspected (I've seen those hemorrhagic intestine photos before), just didn't know if there was something else I didn't know about... Baby is still having liquid diarrhea, though now I'm wondering at this point whether some of that is related to me giving it so many fluids. Just using Sav-A-Chick for now (plus the drench). I'm not sure if it'll make it, we'll see. I'll do my best...

I gave the new chicks some scrambled eggs this morning. Once they got over the "are you trying to poison us?" thing, they started having a lot of fun playing keep-away with pieces all morning. I gave some eggs to Tank and his girls - he's such a good rooster, and so funny. He wouldn't eat any himself, but picked up a big piece, carried it several steps away, dropped it, and tidbitted to the girls: "Hey, baby, look what I found for you! Look how I take care of you..."

OK, I need to go out and get some chores done...

- Ant Farm
Can you get some Kaytee baby bird food?

-kathy
Yeah, I was wondering whether I should get some of that (have read that being used with other sick birds). Would I find it at PetSmart? I need to go get a long garden hose anyway, can get it while I'm out...

- Ant Farm
Didn't know that about coccidia having an effect on egg laying...

Kaytee baby bird food is at PetsMart and Petco.
