That's how it started with me too. I told pearl , let's get a few laying hens. I'm ashamed to tell you how many chickens we got now. I will say that I have five coops and chicks in the house. Oh and my gay roo. He raises all my baby chicks.
I've got 5 coops as well but no gay roo.

You had a hand in it, you know...Thanks again

Happy to help.

Gay roo?

@Sally Sunshine I may get some pictures tonight. I got home laye and after dark and found she had layed on two sometime yesterday. I was too sad to do more than haul them to the far side or my twelve acres to toss them for the coyotes since I did not have time to dig since I was only going to get five and a half hours of sleep as it was. Of course one was the best looking big male. Pigs are not my favorite. Definitely not again and special facilities needed.
I hope you are well. How did your hatch finish up?
@kwhites634 :clap

Thank you Jessi, Chaos, Daxi, Mike & Sally! (Think I got everyone??!)

My 4.5 week olds HAVE to get the boot to a grow out pen and coop this weekend!!! They're trying to fly around the brooder...knocking over feeders and waterers as soon as they're half full...it's a DISASTER - I clean up after them 3 times a day...our temps have increased more so I'm sure they'll be 100% ok out there...they're little monsters now!! And my EHAL chicks need to get split up into the bigger brooders because they're quickly outgrowing the smaller brooder and making big messes too. (Starting to jump and perch on waterers and feeders and try to fly off of them...)

What are your best tips for this stage - keeping water and food from being knocked over? I've tried a few different things but they're still making huge messes of stuff.
I had trouble too. In the brooder before I could put them out where I could hand stuff, I put the waterer on a concrete block put a tile that was bigger than waterer so if they got on it they could not poop in the water. Then I put a weight on top. It worked especially if the bird net was on the pen. I wired the feeder to the side on its own brick. Good luck.

I only have 2 coops and a large one in progress, but no gay roo, either. I only have one 4 1/2 month old cockerel, and he's more than happy to "share the love" with his harem of 12. He's a busy, busy boy...
Very nice, what is his personality like? I think it is BR, and I have heard mixed reports on them. I really like the hens.

Not trying to butt in...I have a BR Roo as well and so far, he's been great...he's around a year or year and a half old? (I got him from someone about 10 months ago) he was raised from the egg by a nice lady and (knock on wood) he's never offered to attack anyone or anything and does his job.
I had 3 hens too but one dropped dead for unknown reasons and the other two are great still. I really like BR's

Good looking bird. My current roo is still in quarantine for another two weeks or so. Other than him the Dom roos are still growing and in a separate coop.
