Good morning!!! I missed quite a few posts, I'll read back later. Sorry for the sleepless night so many had last night!!

I am wondering if there is any recourse I might have with a shipment of eggs I'm tracking. That is if I EVER get them. They were sent from WA to CA but seem to have detoured through Mobile AL. Estimated delivery changed from Thur to Fri. They were shipped on Monday. Only difference I noticed, it said priority 3 day shipping instead of 2 day. But why would it go from WA to AL?

Perhaps the fastest route their vendors fly?
I always had to fly to Houston from St.L to get to Colorado.

We have black bear sightings here every so often. They come down from the mountain near Camp David. I used to work for a guy who frequently snapped pictures of one his backyard tearing up the bird feeders. Had one on his back deck a time or two. Two of them were seen in a dumpster behind a shopping center 3 miles from here in a highly populated area, and one was reportedly seen crossing the road onto my property by a game warden friend & his wife a couple years ago. There was one found dead along the main drag in downtown Frederick ( largest city in the county), from an argument with a vehicle.

Bears require extra sturdy coops.

It's not the time they spend on the plane that's the problem. It is changing planes and going through the sorting buildings dropping from containers to bins that jumbles things.

Finally!!!

I took your advice & put the jumper cables directly to the mower cables, fired up the truck, & hit the switch. The engine turned, but not at full speed, & didn't try to fire.

I pulled both plugs, burned off any oil (though I saw none), shot a little starter fluid into each plug hole, pulled the foam air cleaner (which was dirty) but didn't replace it, sprayed a little starter fluid into the carb port, & hit the switch again; fired right up.
I haven't a clue as to which action worked, but something did.

Just for chits & giggles, I reconnected the battery; started right up! I guess the battery's good, after all.

The mower's still running; I want to burn up all the gas left in the tanks from last season (which I thought I'd done last Fall after I was done mowing) & start all over with fresh gas.

I washed out the foam air cleaner (gotta love Dawn detergent) & set it in the sun to dry. Once it's dry, I'l put it back in place & see if I can get the grass mowed.

I talked to a small engine mech yesterday & arranged for him to come out Saturday, @ $25/hr, in case I couldn't get it running...I'll contact him again if I have no further problems.

My mower has a pretty wimpy fuel pump. (brand new) That's often the problem getting mine started after some downtime without starter fluid. Starter fluid is hard on valves.

Very nice, what is his personality like? I think it is BR, and I have heard mixed reports on them. I really like the hens.

I've had white rocks and partridge rocks. Very assertive birds. The PR attacked me 3 times. I thought the first was a mistake since he couldn't see me and I was reaching under some shade cloth. He may have thought I was a predator. He met his demise after the 3rd time.

Next Wednesday is the end of my almost twelve week old CCL cockrels quarantine. Given their gender and age, what do you put with them as a test bird?

Don't clap too long; the euphoria didn't last long. Threw the main drive belt from the motor to the deck, & I can't get it off w/o removing a pulley, which I haven't been able to do. I've fought this S.O.B. so long I'm totally frustrated; time to let someone else work on it. Motor runs like a champ, though; just can't mow any more grass for the time being.

I've spent so much money on mowers over the years, I swear I'd be better off either hiring someone to cut my grass or buying a new mower every time one quit.

I had to break my pullet's neck. Her leg was at an odd angle, and she just wasn't going to heal right. I hate that! I am now sitting here, terrified of checking to be sure that she is dead. I mean, I know she is. But if she weren't, I'd give in and vomit.
I don't care if that doesn't make sense to you, I just know that I don't like being alone and having to pronounce a fresh body dead.

Bummer. It is our job as animal husbandry persons to do what's best.

Oh, yes. Because I know anything about cleaning a deer.

Hey Chaos..... I got my butt kicked today.... My partner showed up with a $1500 Custom Rod and reel. Another About another $1200 on clothes, waders, and wading boots..... He's 27 with no fear of fast cold deep Water.... I had hip waders...... And don't like getting swept down river....... Wheezing the whole way. Anyway he caught 14.....I hooked 4...., and caught a bunch of suckers....I couldn't get to where the fish were...... But I'm gonna have him go help me get some of those extreme waders he had.
... With my shoulder so bad I can't wear chest waders..... These are almost like a suit. This kid is also starting a custom fishing rod company with s big local business man...i was totally outclassed....

My rooster is overbreeding my hens. I have one with scabs on her back. I know about the aprons but I really don't want to dress my birds. Should I just segregate the ones he had worn all the feathers off of? I checked the Egyptians and they have all their feathers. I feel bad for my girls. What else can I do?

My update so far
incubator #1 had 37 growing chicks at lockdown... have had 27 hatch and one of those did not make it through the night and a 2nd one can't get off his back and has a bigger belly than the others so crossing my fingers. Today is day 22 there are still 7 eggs in incubator that have done nothing and 3 with pipping.
Incubator #2 chicken eggs from a friend and my backyard flock goes into lockdown tonight
Incubator #3 chicken from my backyard flock eggs lockdown 4/26 and 5 turkey eggs from a friend lockdown on 4/29
turkey and duck eggs arriving by mail today for the May hatchalong

The ones that hatched are from my 'mutts' . The roo that fertilized the eggs is from a brahma daddy and a barred rock mama. The hens that laid the eggs are EE's, Buff Orps, Barred Rock and reds (not sure if RI or NH reds) and a couple of hens I hatched previous years that are I guess you'd say mutts LOL

If I cared enough, I would explain her injury, and show the little boy her condition. As it is, I have him blocked for a reason. If he wants to come after me for being better than him, so be it.
