Cool. May I ask - what method did you use to put in the posts, such that you can pull them back up again? I'm assuming not concrete. (Just trying to learn.) One of these days I may end up with less temporary and more permanent enclosures... (Then again, we have so much rock here, maybe I should just stick to T-posts.)

Oh yes you were...

You were so excited, you just couldn't help but talk about it before you got them, and then after you ordered them, and then when they were in transit, and then unboxing pics... at least enough so in the thousands of posts on this thread I remembered (a miracle in and of itself - I had to buy one of those Tile things since I can't find my keys most days). I am not hatching again until fall at the earliest, so I have to throw myself into vicarious enjoyment of everyone else's hatches.

Here's hoping there rest make it to lock down. 20 is a decent number to get started with. What else do you keep, other than Barred Rocks?

Just used post hole diggers to punch holes in the ground... around 18" - 24" deep. Definitely no concrete... but I pack the dirt around the post firmly enough that they hold steady. If I get ready to move them, all I have to do is shove them in a couple of different directions, and they'll slide out. Takes a bit of energy... but it can be done. If not, I have a 4 wheel drive truck and chain.

Honestly, it wasn't me making all the fuss about these eggs... it was Mike! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!

I'd LOVE to get 20 out of this batch! I told my wife this afternoon that I would be happy with a dozen. After she said that would be terrible because of the price, I informed her about how much 12 live HRIR chicks would cost including shipping, and suddenly a hatch of 12 didn't sound that terrible. I'm hoping for 16, but I'll be ecstatic if I manage to hatch 20 healthy red chicks!!!

Check my sig under this post for birds. I have to call it a night. Long day with lots of work made me very tired. Have a great night, Ant Farm.....

Good night everyone!!!!!!!!

Good night....
I neglected to mention...that same battery showed full power on a multi-meter this morning, but still won't crank. Not even a clicking in the solenoid

It's a bad (loose/corrodide)ground or other connection..... Will produce voltage but no amperage

Only safety switch is under the seat, & it's been disconnected since the day I bought it.
No solenoid clicking; nothing at all....like there's no battery.
Full voltage into the solenoid; nothing coming out, but when you short across the posts with a screwdriver the flywheel spins.
Grounding's been checked multiple times...even wire brushed the frame & cable end.
try jumping across solenoid

He said he cleaned the ground connection, and jumping across the solenoid will cause the starter to spin the motor. I suggesting checking the ignition switch. A weak battery and/or connection should at least allow the solenoid to click when the switch is turned to the crank position. If the starter spins when jumping from the battery side of the solenoid to the ignition terminal, then it's either the switch or the wiring between the switch and solenoid. Just my theory...
