It was in the 80s the last 2 days. We even hit 82 on March 15. We had 3 January days in the 60s, and 4 days in the 70s in March. Very unusual. Global warming is real, and now local warming here.Maybe the hot weather will keep the grass from growing as much. Surprisingly we seem to be having a smooth transition this year. Ours is typically a short spring and then blazing hot. Barely hit the 80's so far.
so so so trueYeah, unless you have a coop to set up & a run to build. I want to set some eggs, but refuse to do it until everything's ready, otherwise I'll have month old chicks in the basement 'cause I have no other place for them, to say nothing of a very unhappy wife.
Supposedly donkeys are even better, you should get one of eachHEY!!! Perfect reason as to why I should get a horse. Oooh, chickens are horrible gateway critters!![]()

My husband thinks the horse is less work than the chickens. She was actually his idea even though I'm the horse person, and the chicken personGood deal on the predator issue. My daughter would love to have a horse. Don't have the time or resources though. There's also too much uncertainty in travel for my work at the moment also.
Works the other way around for me. I would have a full fledged farm if it were up to me and the kiddos. Cant seem to get the wife on board(mainly due to the travel for work thing). Haven't been able to find her weak spot.
So true! We are talking about getting a couple herefords

Is there a treat like scratch or something they will coming running for, maybe try throwing some of that through their door to encourage them in?I have three problems with them going in, one is there are no adult birds to guide them, second several of the red rangers plop themselves in the doorway, and since most of them still huddle on the coop floor they are found huddled on the ground by the ladder. I built the coop four feet from the barn and extended the roof to the barn. Then I put a metal person door to the run that blocks the end. So I can enter and change the food and water or just reach in and shut the pop door. So it is an enclosed corner.
I do have a few Christmas chicks in another coop that are roosting, but that is it.
@ChickenCanoe What bands do you use for your chicks and adult birds? Mine are all LF. Thanks

The llama keeps dogs away?I have a couple of horses, but my chickens are in back in the goat pen which is guarded by a llama. I don't know if he does anything about coons, but they don't tolerate any type of canine.

Gonna have to pass on the brooders again. I did say maybe next time but this is still the same time lol. Will be heading your direction in about 2 months but they will be way overdue by then.
