Where could I find really good affordable hatching eggs for them
They are extremely difficult to find. It took me a year to find my foundation stock.
That's the only breed and variety I raise any more. Unless someone can correct me, I have the largest flock in North America. I added some pictures in post #86545.
I tried importing some from Canada and Costa Rica. No one there is raising them or breeding right now.

There are 4 varieties of Penedesencas. The Black is a bit bigger and the only DP variety. They are famous in Spain for the flavor of the meat and have their own festival - Fira del Gall - where people buy a rooster at $50 for their Christmas dinner.

And do they make good breeding stock
What do you mean by that?

Do you want pets or dual purpose? LF or Bantam? Jungle fowl? Preference on origin? Egg color?
Good questions.
Breed Charts are helpful.

I would think so. Think like a young duck - or a chick for that matter. They don't know the difference between a bush, a duck house, the underside of your porch or a pickup truck

That's kinda what I was thinking, I have a shed near where I was planning on sticking their house and an old dodge sedan shell, I should try to get some pictures

yes,I would.I lock them in for about a week and they get used to where food is and it always works
that's what I thought

Thank you

As long as there aren't any complaints.

Morning Phil. You make it out over the weekend?

No tomorrow... Though... Trout season is open now...
I've watched both shows so much I start to think about a similar Armageddon situation. Then it scares me to think that some people that may not be as stable are watching as well.

Thanks loads. I'll try the cinnamon and black pepper. I occasionally have trouble with ants attacking weaker bee hives. I don't think I'll try the borax and sugar mix. The bees will eat that too.
I wonder if just plain boric acid would work without the bees getting into it.

I hear you. I came in to research bee yard configuration and got stuck here again. I have about 20 years of projects started and they need to be done in a month. Some need to be done yesterday.

I don't think the ants would eat it they go for the sugar and the borax years their inside apart works great.

Only calculator out then was Texas Instruments. Not only couldn't most of us afford them, but we weren't allowed to use them, anyway. PC's were unheard of; no Personal Computers, no Politically Correct (whatever the h3ll that's supposed to mean)

TI... Makes great calculators
I'm not sitting out there; I don't even know exactly where you live.
Not sitting out here, either; not since I brought the 'puter into the house.

I just didn't want you to think I was picking on you friend.... I'm not.... But the thought behind the round tuit... Relys on you to actually applied yourself..... It's just a motivational tool to help you overcome a short coming..... (Alcohol, drugs, depression)..... I believe it works if you want it too ! That's all.
You said it didn't work for you.... You probably don't have any issues to overcome.... You Seem stable and happily to me.....

What I meant by breeding stock is could I breed them for a profit
Profit in poultry is very iffy with small flocks. Economy of scale works against you.
They are prolific and I could feed all my animals on eating egg sales if I chose.
I think to make a good profit, you need something unique.
That said, I think if one wants to keep their children from doing drugs, they need to teach them to raise chickens.

Does anyone else want to chime in on the profitability of small scale poultry?
It depends on so many things.
What breeds do you have?
How diligently are you improving that breed
Are you marketing locally, nationally or internationally?
Are you just hatching a lot of barnyard mixes?
Do you have enough birds to buy feed in bulk?

There are so many other variables, profitability from one breed doesn't matter unless you consider all those variables.

Oh and how many do you have in your flock it must be alot:)
It ranges from about 40 to 100 depending on the day of the week.

Hey chickencanoe do you sell hatching eggs?

I do. Egg price is reasonable but shipping and shipping containers are high. You an PM me.
