Also have to buy a big cage to put ducklings in... They are out growing current one.... I was going to make a cage but I'm going to pull my well and put a new well in this weekend.... So I will be too busy....
I candled today.... Got growth on all 12 duck eggs... Threw a bantam egg in for the heck of it....
Gonna try and put the old Firebird on the road tomorrow....
Quote:It is in the seventies or eighties upstairs where the chicks are so even though they chicks are 26 and 33 days old, I turned the heat off. Do you think they need it?
Plenty warm. No heat needed. They're close to being able to go outside. They seem to be doing well enough, I just know they are not fully feathered. It is just getting too warm upstairs during the day now for even the seventy five watt bulb in my opinion. It was eighty three when I came home without it.
Thanks Banti
It stays in the 50s most of the year in my cellar. 60s in the summer. They should be fine as long as they're feathered out.
Your upstairs is bit chilly if it's only 50. Just saying...![]()
Humans, most primates (except the most primitive), most bats, many species of perching birds, many rodents like capybaras and guinea pigs and a large number of fishes cannot synthesize.CC did you ever thought abaout were real carnivores like lions get their C vitamin? They don't eat any plant materials ?
They just have the building mechanism, and they synthesize it for themselves, only Humans and some few species can't.
Basically you can find vitamin C also in animal material especially milk and liver, but the problem is that heating destroy it!
Muktuk is almost the only source of vitamin C for the Inuit people.
Hens can keep chicks warm in quite cold temperatures. Chicks really aren't that fragile. They sleep under her at night but during the day, they only go back to her for the occasional warm up. But most of the day they run around with the flock regardless of temperature. How did she keep them all warm? What a touching story. When my pups come back to visit my mother dogs seem to care less.
I hope she starts eating better. I have a friend like that.So far nothing is happening with my 15 eggs. Day 21 started about an hour ago. I usually have eggs hatching on day 20, so I am hopping everything is going to be ok. I really want to open the bator & "check" but I am resisting.
On another note,I am taking the day off work on Friday to go see my Mom. She's 79 ( 80 in July) and has been really sick since the end of March. She's been in & out of the hospital (UTI) then allergic to the meds they put her on. She hasn't been eating or drinking much and is doing much worse. Prayers are appreciated!
I think I've seen that in all the coops. I don't know why they do it.I hate to interrupt the extended coffee break with anything related to chickens, but one of the fake eggs I put in the nest yesterday had been raked out into the middle of the coop this morning.
I wonder if someone's trying to tell me something.

Sorry it's a bad pic but what is the chance of getting fertile eggs from the hen that is closest to the camera bred to the roo behind her?
Big size difference on that one.
If he's mating her than your chances are good for fertile eggs.I saw him mate with her this morning but she is a Mille fleur d uccle and is very tiny and he is a mixed LF
We had just been eating her eggs thinking they would be unfertile. May try to incubate them and see.Big size difference on that one.If he's mating her than your chances are good for fertile eggs.I saw him mate with her this morning but she is a Mille fleur d uccle and is very tiny and he is a mixed LF
I'm excited Chewbacca my one rabbit is working on a nest I hope she has them before I leave today
