There are 9 hens and we are getting 4 eggs a day.  That count had better go up!!!  5 out of 6 isn't bad.  Was it because of the slow start that you want to get rid of the line?

That was my thinking. The rooster wasn't fertile until they all started laying well. First egg was at ten months, and that was only two hens. I had 12 eggs in incubator for the NYHal none of which were fertile. Their chicks I hatched at the Ehal are growing well. But he's not getting all hens. His great grandfather was the same. Pretty birds just not maturing quickly. I've had them for three years hoping to get better results

I have had the same issues with my silkies. The two that hatched at Christmas ended up being a Roo and a hen. Lots of eggs from the parent stock, lousy fertility.
The Christmas hen has not laid a single egg yet.
The original Roo has been replaced and repurposed.
The original hens are taking turns laying and going broody at the moment.
I cleared their nest boxes last weekend, and candled the eggs that were there, 22 eggs, only 12 that looked viable. Tossed them in the bator and hoping for the best.

Both my daughters hate it when they call to tell me what one of the grandkids have done this time and I burst out into a maniacal laugh. Then I stop suddenly and say in my best Keanu Reeves impression, 'w hoa, flashback dude! ' :lau

It has gotten to the point recently they have stopped telling me what the little 'Angels' have done. They tell my wife, and ask her to relay the message now. :gig

Revenge is sweet! :lau

Well, it has been fun catching up,and chatting.
Unfortunately my eyelids are getting very heavy, so I am turning in.
Good night everyone! See you tomorrow! :frow

I gave my silkies to the neighbors. Always and I mean always broody. Three of them would set a big bunch of eggs at once. Not accomplishing anything. Fun little critters though. The ones I did get to hatch was from the bator after they started them. So you have a good chance.
