Thanks for all the advice everyone!! Two chicks have hatched. The original pip has not. It's been 36 plus hours. When do I help? Also those two are banging around. When do you move them to the brooder?

Most people will wait until the hatched chicks have dried off before moving them to the brooder. As far as helping the other chick yes I would say after 36 hrs that it's probably stuck. Read over the article I provided for a decent overview of assisted hatching. Its not as scary as it sounds. Just go slow, keep it moist and STOP if you see blood.

No I never did. Every ***** is different and every whelping is different. We usually say within 24 hrs. Did it go back up?

@Sally Sunshine technically, you can pasture raise some of these heritage breeds. You have to have hot wire though, and they do tend to root if you don't have enough pasture witg what they want. I have too many other animals to have them tearing up my ground.
She had 12, she crushed one while burping, and two more bird into the day when she got up on a cold rainy morning when they were 3 days old comma and they died when she laid back down. I had 9 that made it past the first 3 days. I have sold 2 and have 7 to go.

Never having kept hogs I can't vouch for this, but I'm told that you can contain hogs behind a single strand of hot wire about 6" off the ground, the idea being that when they touch the wire with their snout while they're rooting they learn to avoid it.

I prefer a nice roomy hotel room with a Jacuzzi tub for a nice time away from all people.....  plus I am too old and sore to sleep on the ground or in a bunk bed
