Thanks. Today is our last cool day. Most of the time I have till 12:00 to get things done outside. Then it's into the barn for cleanup, then the house when it's too hot. So out I go. It's gorgeous out right now. Good for sitting on deck with iced coffee or tea.
LOOOVE some good venison steak. Properly marinated, you can cut it with a fork. All meat, no fat.Deer!!!(came from a friend of mine)and the corn on the cob is from the store
.but I have some great news!!my chicks are coming in,13 days!!!im going to have to make a chat thread!!if I do,will some of you guys come?!![]()
The possum call was just as shrill and panicked as the near death experience. AND SHE WAS SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY!!!!!opossum!I am certain you were terrified both times with those calls!! Good God, not one I ever want!![]()
My son didnt call, he came to tell me AFTER he got out of the hospital! Talyn Wrecked his crotchrocket when he was 22 and he was a mess of blood and road rash, still has scars all over his legs side and back, but thank God he had thick leather on and helment, he was lucky, he never got on a bike again that I am aware of. Two weeks later his friend hit a tree and died on his. sucks the kids still kept in touch from HS soccer buds even though in college, such a devastating event for everyone. 22 and carrying your friends casket to his grave is an eye opener in itself. I will have to mention here the next one Dustyn Bought one last year and I am not happy about that at all. But what can I do.

Psssst......those two with the smushed-in noses ain't goats!
Wafers are good. I haven't used them for incubation but I'm familiar with the technology....
Did I mention I have no issues with wafer thermostats..... just sayin lol

I grew up with beef cattle, horses, hogs, chickens and pheasant. (and turtles, snakes, lizards, salamanders, frogs, alligators, etc.)...
I know she needs pigs cows sheep too if she gettin goats right?
Good looking stuff. Does it rain there? Are you putting something to shed water over the growout pen?Golly, it's slow! So... some pictures.
Here's the EHAL boys' growout tractor coop, renovation in progress (added bedding, but needed to swap out the tarp, add shade cloth, and add a roosting platform that proved hard to measure and fit in the existing structure due to the angles of the conduit).
After several trims and fits, I got the roosting platform in place FINALLY, with Gorilla tape over the seam. Added Sweet PDZ, hung the feeder and waterer chains, and then gave up for the night.
THIS is what happens when it rains uncontrollably and you've been too busy with chicken stuff to tend the front of your house. Beauty berry, roses, rangoon creeper, hoja santa, lemon balm and chile pequins all vying for the right to take over my house. Roses currently about 7-8 feet high, beauty berry is up to about 14 ft. There's also mouse melon that is growing as a weed and actually attempting to crawl through the door - had to beat it and the lemon balm back today...![]()
Finally, can't remember if it was here where I asked about fly control. I got the FlyStick, recommended by someone. Works great, but you know how they warn that it's so sticky it can also catch/stick to small birds? Um, yeah...
Trying to work my way thorough my freezer inventory to make sure I get to anything that's older - found some locally made German bratwurst rattling around in there, so that's for dinner with homemade cheese and mustard. Yum!!!!!

I think about 2 weeks but I imagine shorter is possible. At 8 months she may be naïve enough to take them sooner. However, I think the feeling of embryos moving in eggs and chirping may have something to do with it.What is the shortest amount of time you've had a chicken be broody and accept chicks? I have chicks now and I believe my Ameraucana chicken has just gone broody. Would tomorrow night be to soon? She is only about 8 months old.
Bonus!Today got off to a decent start; just woke up to 2/12 chicks hatched that weren't officially due 'til tomorrow. Not bad, so far, considering I really didn't expect any to successfully hatch after all the humidity swings from the beginning, so every one's an unexpected bonus. Therest of the day should be interesting.![]()
I'm not nameless. I used to always hatch in the cellar but using the LG, I needed a warmer spot so it is in the spare bedroom that no one goes into.Woke up to use the facilities; knew from experience it was useless to try to go back to sleep. Besides, I wanted to check on my eggs; I don't keep the 'bator next to the bed like some on here who shall remain nameless. Good thing I did, as it turned out. I just had a feeling they might start popping early; aren't due 'til tomorrow.
Why is it that I have more PMs than messages in the thread? Very interesting!
Sooooo good morning to all, and I will TTYL... Whenever I figure stuff out.
For some strange reason I ended up living in a condo. I know why. It was way less money for more housing than the crappiest little houses around here. No elbow room but when inside it didn't feel like it. It was 3 stories with a walk out basement and a walkout deck next to the fireplace but more importantly, looking out any of the windows at the back of the place you saw no other buildings. It was just trees, fields and 2 lakes. Driving up to the building was a bit claustrophobic but once inside it was all good....
Even the suburbs make me feel claustraphobic, lol!

Misters for cooling work great in CA. They're virtually worthless here. When we get up to 110, the humidity is usually 80-90%.No it's the temperature I hope they are wrong. Chickens don't do well and neither do I. I usually run sprinklers on their roof to help.
I have plenty of shade and it's only getting into the mid 80s for the next week or so. I have a friend's dog tethered under some high shade now so it can't kill the chickens.Me too of all the chickens they have the best advantage as they're in last years overgrowth of a garden. Lots of areas to hang out in shade. Going to try and get outside coops built for the others this weekend
You should say, you're ahead of all of us.And what should I say?
Hey guys how do I get a broody hen to quit being broody
