Yes every Thursday morning. I'm heading there tomorrow after work. Need feed... Well that's the excuse I'm using. Suppose to have naked necks in tomorrow I'm somewhat temped by them especially if they do so well in heat
Chaos!! I forgot.... some of your eggs aint makin it over that way I had a oopsies in the lower entryway!! There were actually five on the floor she scarfed them up so fast!!
I've been gone forever, too... but nobody asks about me. I wouldn't have been able to answer anyway, since I wasn't here to see the question. For what it's worth, I'm still alive... and busy like crazy. I thought I would have been done with the new coop by now, but there's always something else that I think it needs. My wife isn't helping any, either. She insisted we needed two more windows, and the deck needed to be bigger so she can put her lawn chairs on it and watch the chickens. What's a chicken condo without an observation deck, right??? So my time has been diverted to building a deck. I thought I had the materials list worked out, but failed to factor in enough 2x6's for the steps. I also misjudged the number of steps it would take. I got 4-step stringers, when I needed 5 steps. Never was very good at algebra... DOH!!! Back to Lowe's I go... The deck will be 6' x 6' for the front half, and widen up to 8' 8" for the second half. This wider area is the landing where the steps meet the deck. This is all I've accomplished so far...
Thank you!!! Now, if only I had my notebook so I could write this down..... Really missing it.... I will do that!! Hmm, wonder if bleaching legos will hurt them..... No fair!! One of these makes you fat, and the other simply insane. -Banti

With those temps, you REALLY should go get yourself some of those Naked Neck chicks. I think you'll like them - mine are just run of the mill hatchery ones (from Ideal) and lay really well. I bought some very very good German New Hampshire chicks from a breeder this spring. Supposed to be really big and fast growing. I just did the 8-9 week weights, and compared to my records for the Naked Neck chick rates. It was close, but Naked Necks grew bigger faster. I'm still keeping the GNH and hope to cross them in with the NNs (the GNHs are able to get good growth with the "disadvantage" of having to put protein into feathers, so maybe the cross will be even better, abetted by good selection).
Go for it!!!! Nothing to lose, and they are AWESOME. Also super, super tasty and easier to process...

Edit to add: I can't speak for all hatchery NNs. But many are still running large, from what I hear from others... Pick the ones with the most naked of necks if you can (rather than the big muff). They will be NN genotype.
I have a small pen they go into just out of brooder so that helps. I know I'll be getting more tomorrow as the broody hen only had 5 chicks and it's just as easy to raise 20 as it is 5
Mc I hope you had an amazing day good night to everyone I cut bushes from 8-3 with a small lunch break and thought I was going to die with it being 95 degrees.
