I just figured they might have some experienced future solution/prevention idea since they do it a lot. Enjoy. It is good to know you can cook. Make sure you can do laundry too. We had some guy in college who dumped dish soap in his load of laundry. There were bubbles all down the dorm hallway :gig
Seriously?? Who can't do laundry?? :lau

Quote: yes very good thing! no injury then? glad you got the line too boot!

Quote: I came up on a Canada Goose chick several years ago at the local fishing hole with a length of monofilament line wrapped around its leg, and momma right behind it. he other end of the line was tangled in a bush. Momma was a bit antsy with me being that close to her baby, but I got hold of the line & started slowly walking up to them. I never got close enough to unwrap the line, but at least it broke & baby was able to swim away. I hope the line eventually unwound itself, but I never saw them again to find out for sure.
I cant believe momma didnt eat you alive!! nasty boogers in the wild! lol

I finally have some Silkies hatching! I had to incubate them at really low humidity (it has been very humid here) and hatching them at about 60 to 65% humidity. Can't wait till they are fluffed up!

I got 2 or 3 black showgirls and a few lavenders I think!

YES!!! @darkbluespace MUST SEE THE BABIES!!!!

Hey everyone, I'm having some broody hen issues and I need some advice. Last week the hens hatched two chicks (on Tuesday I think) then abandoned their nest. This is the first time they have ever done that, so I was surprised Wednesday morning when I found a pile of barely warm eggs left in the nest. Usually they will stay on the eggs for another day to finish hatching but I supposed this time they had better things to do... Anyway, everything was going well until Friday night. When I got home the chicks were running all over having a fit. The hens were no where to be found, until I went to their nesting spot and there they were with two eggs! I took the eggs from them and put the chicks back under the girls, all while muttering some very unkind words about their craptastic mothering skills. I figured that was that, but then again Saturday night the same thing happened. And just to keep things consistent, again last night. Now I'm beginning to worry because last night, while the chicks were having another conniption, another hen started attacking them (out of frustration maybe?). I want to just take the chicks away from them since they don't seem to give two farts about them during the late afternoon/evening, but I also feel like that's sort of cruel. Any opinions/advise out there? I'm starting to feel like CPS for chicks

I am not good with broody hens, I am not fond of them at all! for reasons you stated and others.... I would ask on the broody hen thread see if someone has options for you. I personally would take them if they are doing that.
You can believe I kept an eye on her in case she decided to come after me. I like to believe she knew I was trying to help. Turtles would've grabbed the youngin' for sure if it'd stayed tethered to that bush, and there's some in there that could, very easily.

Our goatees took over the extra chicken Meaties coop during the rain festival this weekend

poor chickens looked like wet rats

Oh guess what I got.... Two more keets!! One lavendar and one ihavenoideawhatitis. They are so cute! :love

YES!!! @darkbluespace

I know, they are taking FOREVER to hatch! I think I lost one showgirl cause it couldn't get its big yolk bottom out of the egg : ( Poor thing. But I think I am getting more lavenders than I though so I am so excited, if only they would hurry up!!

oh fer sure them suckers love ducklings and I imagine goslins too!

My son the oldest had a run in at a friends pond when he was just three, that goose momma scared the crap out of him he never cried so hard or ran so fast probably the rest of his time so far! That must be why he is such a goose hunter now LOL
