OMG. I stand corrected. I just checked Accuweather and we're supposed to get to the low and mid 80s for 2 or 3 days next weekend.

Maybe one or 2 days without running the AC or providing foot baths.

I'm changing a thermostat today. The touch screen on the old one quit. It still regulated temperature but you couldn't make changes manually.

I'm down to 4 Pene cockerels. I thought I was going to lose another last night because he planted himself in a tree. He returned this morning but won't imprint on the new building.
My cross rooster that I was going to butcher a couple days ago found a temporary home with a friend.
Don't know how long that will last.

Summer has finally arrived in St. L this year.
It hit 90+ for the third time this year on Wednesday and we'll stay in the mid to upper 90s for the foreseeable future. It was low (60%) humidity the first couple days but has been creeping up ever since but we have a reprieve today at only 45% right now. That's uncharacteristically low.

I always loved the cold till I had to carry water to 8 flocks of chickens through the snow in sub zero F weather - ALL WINTER.

I will have heated circulated water for all flocks when it's below freezing this winter and all those in the future.
i'm a little jealous to say the least, i want summer back!

Thanks, I just meant to help cool them since it took me so long and it is hot here. Next time I will have a tub of ice water. That is if I ever do it again.
The plucker would have been great if I had had a better clamp or two people. I just tested it on a small part of a bird, and then did them by hand.
i'm sorry! next time it will be easier, every time it gets easier

I candles it right now I have it on a heat pad and it looks like it's about day 10_11
Do you have a chicken on day 2/3

no,we weren't letting anyone hatch baby's right now.we already have between 40_50 adult birds and around 30+ babys

Since I got rid of my big, mean EE roo, I moved the 9 hens he'd been bunking with over to the big pen with my laying hens. The Salmon Favorelle roo hasn't crowed yet, Hes been living with the hens. Hes's the only one that chased the new additions. I'm going to move the Easter HAL chicks into the now empty pen. But first I need to cover it. The 5 Hawks that live in my front yard will definitely go after these bantams!!!

I just put 7 eggs under a broody hen. Ideally I will put them somewhere else around day 18 so they don't fall out of the box she's in if they hatch. Is 7 too many? Shes a Swedish flower hen so she's pretty little... Do those of you who use broody hens put them somewhere specific or ? I hope my other bird will be back out in the coop by the time they're developing, is it ok to move them later? My other hens foot is looking about 1/2 as swollen so I think she's going to be ok but one of my buff orps is just laying around and really pale. I tried having her walk the yard and I brought her inside because I can't tell if she's broody, sick, egg bound... We gave her a little corid because her tail was down and she just looked miserable I went to sick but it's been 5 days and she looks the same. Not a peep and she's not moving around ... Thoughts?
