I have 13 purebred Rhode Island Reds, 11 of which just turned 8 weeks old today. I've always had an attraction towards them, and now I know why. They are the calmest, sweetest birds I've ever seen. They love to follow me around, and will perch on my legs, knees, arms, or shoulders every chance they get. Kind of cool right now, but may be a bit uncomfortable when they're fully grown...

My list of chickens is in my sig below...

Oh I love rir my neighbor keeps them and they're just lovely!

I am glad they are well. My thirteen are clear now. Nine cockerels :(
But they are beautiful.

We have 18+ cockerels for sure so far not counting anything younger than a week... I feel ya...

Where in NY are you? I'm in the foot hills of the Catskills, Delaware county. There is so many chicken breeds to fall in love with out there, I went from a beautiful egg basket to figuring out what I want for dual purpose, and keeping them rare, white jersey giants and now naked necks, keeping some easter eggers and silkies though, cause they are so COOL!, easter eggers lay great and the silkies have black meat and skin!
oh those are great breeds! We are closer to Ithaca :) beautiful options here <3

I won't go away, no worries! :hugs
What part of what I said?
You tried, Kat, thanks so much...... I don't know what we all would do without you! :hugs
Mutts! I love mutts.

Hmm....

Probably also:
Brahma

And more that have slipped my mind at the moment........

yes mutts are excellent!! I haven't kept most of those breeds but I think they're all lovely! I'm always so tempted by them! I really want a polish & sultans!! but I don't think they'd do very well here :-/ I'm actually really worried about putting out the silkies... We have a lot of birds and the weather is weird here.
