LOL!
I have one hen that's like that. She always thinks I'm going to feed her if I walk towards the coop! She'll follow me, and if I stop, she stops right behind me. If I take a step, she dashes after me. It's funny!

Wow! Is that a Border Collie thing, or was she just trained really well, or what?

Thanks for the link!

Good morning!
i know a couple of border collies like that, so maybe??

Probably
daycare can wait

:( :( :( :hit :hit :hit :hit something came in my run last night ad ate one of my chicks that was left out.ripped.the Beal clean off.and ate all the bones.all that was left was the beack, feathers a peace of liver and that was it.

Can chicks survive 100 degree weather outside
I don't think they will do very well no. I actually just went into my dry cool temp controled basement and turned off the heaters and lights for a bit because it's so hot out. I hat chicks from today to 8 weeks old and they all looked very warm. They perked up and I adjusted and set everything back up. I worry because heat can kill even very healthy chicks of any age. My brooders are large and they can get out of the heat and it still seemed too warm. Your chicks look about 2 weeks old to me. But even my hens struggle very much with 90 degree weather and they lay in pits under trees and drink ice water and eat watermelons and feel the heat. Chicks are very delicate I don't think a hatchling should be over 95 and drop 5 degrees per week.

Mama and baby are doing great! This little one has feathered legs! I asked the girl who gave me the eggs and she said she has one hen that is solid black with feathered legs but was told she was a BSL like her others...I am feeling pretty safe to say that either that hen is crossed with something else or is an entirely different breed altogether. Maybe an actual breed since BSLs are not considered a breed but a hybrid. Anyway, if this chick has BSL in it and the gene for sexing is there it's a girl...but I think that the possibility of it having the gene after the crossbreeding is slim to none. Now just to keep mama sitting for a few more days..have one more baby to hatch!

super cute! i wonder if it is part maran, the french ones have feathered legs

...

Nobody here "loves" me. I doubt many here would even notice if I vanished.

...

I doubt that's true.

Hahaha still can't sleep. Gonna be a long day...coffee is in order.

Boned up on respiratory bacterial infections that effect poultry and I agree with the doctor that a run of antibiotics and we can reintegrate. It's not bronchitis, it's a respiratory infection...and not one of the nasty ones, gods bless.

Did you also bone up on bacterial infections that have no cure or other respiratory issues that antibiotics can't help like viral, fungal, environmental, nutritional, protozoal.
Most things that afflict chickens can't be helped with antibiotics.

For what you said, silly!

Good night!

Girl, the fact that I had to stop driving while I was married doesn't mean I never drove.

Your husband wouldn't let you drive? Was he Saudi?

So what breeds are everyone's favorites / what do you keep?

My favorites are

Barnevelders

Dominique's

Brahmas

Olive/Easter eggers

We also keep

Orps

We have a maran chick

Some silkie chicks

2 New Hampshire reds

Sussex

Rocks

And mixes because mixes are great!

We plan to eventually keep orloffs as well but we are focused on the top 4 mixes ATM though we don't breed doms or brahmas yet, we are slowly building up our flock of doms and I think next year will think about that. And I wouldn't mind hatching a few brahmas either!

I'm Curious what you're all breeds of choice are?!

Jersey Giants (I've had all 3 varieties - black, white and blue)
Jaerhons
Minorcas (love whites)
Welsummers
Anconas
And my number 1 favorite - Penedesenca in the DP black variety.

Breeds I've never had but want.
Fayoumi
Cubalaya
Quetro
Genetic Hackle

Greetings, earthlings that are still awake!

I locked up the flock, and went back into the house. The dog was off doing… Whatever it is that dogs do.

When he finally came to the door to be let in, I realized that a skunk had just sprayed right outside the door! The dog was acting weird, and would not come near me for me to check him. Since the smell of skunk was already in my nostrils, I could not tell if he had gotten hit.

...

This dog I'll be babysitting a couple more days is the most amazing dog. Almost annoying. I've never had such an obedient animal. She won't do anything until she's told to.
She just stands there looking at you waiting for a command.
I'm thinking that must be a weird life for any animal.

I can wait for it to hatch. This feels like forever

You can wait or can't wait?

I'm going to big town today (an hour drive) to get hair cuts for me and the kids. I'm about to shower and put on nice clothes. If that doesn't trigger goat labor, I don't know what will.

Big town. Deridder or Lake Charles?

Well one of my chicks had died that make two that has died on me and I need that cocci treatment stuff but I don't have the money to get the stuff

So what's your plan?

Quote:
And I don't have the money to get the stuff to heal them

There is another option besides medication.
Good management.
Keeping bedding bone dry and feeders full virtually eliminates any possibility of coccidiosis.
I haven't used medicated feed in about 6 years and the last time I used Corid was 4 years ago.

Thanks. That's interesting. So, is that what a chicken egg's shell temp should be, or a pea egg's shell temp?
:hugs
What kind of fox? He sounds pretty bold! That's good that you're locking the chickens up early. The grey fox at our house came somewhere around 5:00-5:30, so that's what I have to do, too.

Awww they are so adorable! :love

Body temperature of an adult chicken can vary between 105 and 107.

Can I get a free bag of that stuff anywhere

I'm not aware of any stores that give their products away. If you find one, let me know.
CC are you familiar with this breed? The Orust? It is wonderful one! See the color of its shanks! I WOULD love for a couple of them!
