Yes, she woke shortly after six this morning (instead of 8:30-10:30 as usual) and had another bad nap. The nap was the final straw. When she was done fussing, she "helped" me put the crib back together. I swear I heard her sing, "Hallelujah!" I know I did! She was a happier child the moment we went to her room tonight, and she saw the crib together. Last week (after the crib was down) she began crying whenever it was time to go to sleep. She saw the crib together, and stopped her tears. We read her stories in peace and harmony. She laid down, went to sleep and hasn't woken.
I expect her to sleep well into the morning!

Yayyyyy

Learning experience doesn't even begin to cover it... :/

But yeah, it's part of the process...

When you candle with a flashlight.I do not know how long to wait before giving up. Found some eggs out of the best box. Cannot tell if there is movement. There is just a small air pocket. Been in incubator for 2 weeks.

Ok so I love a good mystery but also they annoy me... I've got this little chick I just found in the hatcher that is brown and has a rose comb I think... The options for parents being silver penciled rock dad and Sussex, rock, orp or dom,,, I am having a hard time figuring how a dom has a brown chick! I'll have to find it later and grab a picture of it but what on earth lol.

Can't come up with anything that is shade LOVING. Shade TOLERANT would be any type of clover, ladino, perhaps some lettuces, radish, 7-top turnip.

what is it with all of the kids turning two in the next 2 weeks?
Must have been a busy October

My stomach is revolting against coffee.
That's another reason I switched to green tea and herbal teas.

I was just being a sarcastic jerk in my head (full disclosure. I am very mean) and decided that I was going to possibly make a loaf of French toast today.

Then I thought about all the other stuff that needs done.

I need more energy, and less stuff to do.
It amazes me that in one night I tore up a carpet, disposed of it, swept twice, vacuumed a few more times, mopped four times (the floor was bad after forty years or so) moved in two recliners, added throws and end tables, and still cleaned and rearranged two other rooms.
I am an odd person, aren't I?

I never minded cleaning coops, until asthma got the best of me. I just throw a tarp down use a big plastic shovel and throw everything on it and drag to the compost pile in the woods.
Never do so without a dust mask.

Yeah, I have not even gotten to mark the eggs. I am going to be ready with an incubator in a few weeks. I may not want the extra chicks, but I don't have the heart to let them die in the shell.
How the heck does that boy candle all the time?!

Too much time on his hands.

I have watched a few videos, and it is not crystal clear to me. Is the cutting and gutting easy or not? I can kill and pluck. I mean the cutting the stuff out.
Fairly easy if you have very sharp knives. A pain in the neck with dull knives. Practice makes perfect.
Watch more videos. Most people withhold feed the day before so the crop is empty. However, if it's full You can easily see where to carefully cut it away from the breast meat.

its just yanking it out, its the lungs that you have to dig in the ribs with nails a bit to get out
A blast of water helps loosen them.

My broody sucked, she killed all the brahma eggs I gave her a week before hatching, so I gave her chicks, 7 pullet chicks, so far she is a good momma at least, this pic was when I pushed her back off to grab the eggs out and give her the babies. She had one job = sitting there and letting 8 chicks hatch out of their shells!!!! ughhhh

Maybe she didn't like all the artwork on the eggs.

LOL! Do I really have that many posts?!
I am not sure that "life of the party " is said in a nice way!

You know that I really am not offended, right?
However, I will be quiet if you think I really do talk too much.
You do whatever you want to do.

Hey! I only have 12,000, you're the one with 18! Whew!
Oh yeah, that's right.

Yup, I'm afraid so. I need to cull any birds that may be excreting virus in the millions and billions throughout their entire lives - bad idea to keep birds like that around.

Oh yes, I plan to keep raising chickens, this is just one subgroup of them. I'm going to focus on Naked Necks and German New Hampshires (crossing them as well). I have pullets coming up that will give me some colorful eggs as well (marans, an olive egger, and some leg bars that I am hoping are ok), and they will have Goodwin the Lavender Ameraucana as their rooster/protector.

Mystique is beautiful, but already a little standoffish (compared to all the other NNs).

Yes and no - it's not hard but you have to get the hang of it. I suggest culling one bird and taking your time with it to figure it out. The one thing is that you don't want to rupture the gallbladder as it will taint the meat.

I agree with this.

I don't want to do my chores!!!!!

good point

You lack some protein! With your goats and cows I see a lot of this!

I want some.
