Yes entire sheets of newspaper, brooder box I am using is bottomless and on concrete floor of barn. Been using it for 3 yrs now. Just didn't get it swapped for this batch.I thinking he has earned infection.

So far no more peeps or pips. Think I may run bator till Monday for sure. These were shipped eggs and all looked good upon arrival. I let them rest after I undiapered them for 4or 5 hours before setting them. Had 21 and last candle looked like 10 and 2 more possibly. So I keeping my hopes up since they are popping so far apart. Once bator is empty I going to clean it and bring it upstairs somewhere and set quail eggs. Mmmm mmmm nom nom nom.

I have gotten duck eggs for the past three days in a row. Today, I even found a brown egg! First I have found in maybe two weeks! With one less duck, and five less roosters I think the girls are much happier already! I can't wait for four more ducks to go!
I will also have to make up a flyer for the chicks that are due in six and twelve days. I know that there are quite a few brown eggs under the hens.

No babies as of lunch time. I'm leaving in the morning to spend three days in New Orleans. Hoping now she holds out til Wednesday.

I dreamed she had boy/girl twins, one black with white and one white with black (like her first set). They were curly like poodles.

And then there were 4. Smallest black one is the yoke sac problem chick. I am not positive yet but the one looks to have blue down on its wings, bit crusty the last two but not as bad as the first. Tried to clean em and didnt have much luck. Yes I need to put paper in need to get some. Guys burned my pile I had for the brooder.

So cute!

In maintenance mode big time while I am on vacation, spent most of today dead heading planters/hanging pots so I have flowers after the 4th.
We were going to go to hog roast today but hubby woke up with ear ache and fever. He's pale and cold, had a hoody on with jeans and long sleeve t all day. Said it feel like it's going down his neck too. Got him to take Tylenol but won't do a warm compress on it or cotton ball in his ear. Really drives me nuts when I look up how to care for him then he only will let you do bare minimum of it. Just love banging my head against a wall.

First, thank you for all the bday wishes.

Second, if I keep this up I'll catch whites sooner than I would have expected.

Hi everyone! Thought I would you a quick update on my chick situation seeing as you all have me so much help...both of my little darlings that weren't doing so well (the one with wry neck and the one with the shell attached to its umbilical cord) are up and running around as if nothing ever happened...they are in such good form it is almost a miracle! Who would've thought something as simple as vitamins would bring them back from being so sick? Can't thank everyone enough for your advice and direction...amazing! ^_^

what do you build for grow out pens? Any pictures?

Well this time I think it's going to be temporary. Probably put it inside the protected area but the weeds are high there. Not really sure yet as I have quite a bit of building materials. Last time I built one the chickens weren't readily available to catch. Yes if it all works I'll take pictures.
