You are doing a great job for your first hatch!! It is absolutely addicting. I had to give up all my roosters, so these eggs I"m hatching are the last of my own eggs, but I have so many babies right now, that's probably a good thing!

You should have some cute chicks! A barred RR? More photos once they are dry and fluffy please!!!

I've noticed that the longer the eggs stay in the shell gland, the darker and thicker the shells are. Got a picture somewhere of a pea egg that was in the shell gland for over a week, and it was so much darker than her regular eggs.

Happy holiday weekend everyone! @MotorcycleChick These made me think of you!

Well my mind has figured the grow out pen including where to place it and what to build it with. Now my mind has to convince my body to engage.

Thanks to everybody who helped me out the other night with my hatch-2 spunky serama chicks both doing great go far-hatched 1 day apart. Today is day 20 for my other 2 so will see in the next couple days if anything else hatches-I have some shipped silkie eggs in there too. The ones that hatched were from my 2 seramas-proud parents Barry and Patty!

I may have missed something, but why are you hatching in the turners?

Hello! I was trying to read this thread via my iPhone, but could not really understand the first few posts so I just wandered away lol. I guess you caught me! I'm still on my phone though and the mobile app is really buggy so I can't use it much, and the page is big and cumbersome in my internet browser.

But anywho, I borrowed an incubator from a friend so hopefully I will be getting some eggs here soon.

Yes, yes I do! I pretty much grew up on them. I'm pretty sure I've ridden more than I've walked in my life (and I do a lot of walking).

Unfortunately I don't own a horse right now due to financial and health reasons.

Seeing these pictures of hatching eggs makes my stomach fall-- how can I take responsibility for such an enterprise when I have no idea what I am doing?? (Nevermind that I lived at the poultry unit at Cal Poly and was responsible for tens of thousands of birds.... That was many years ago!).

You can do it! Keep doing it every month, and you will be a pro in no time! When all else fails, remember this. I got a 1-year-old to assist a chick that was stuck in its shell. If she can do it, we can all do it. We just have to not over think it. No fear!!

I reached for the barn light and saw something run that I registered was not my cat, but before I fully processed that I saw the other three startled racoons staring at me from three feet away from around the cat food bowl sitting on the crate.
I wish I had a shotgun (just a rifle and hand guns) I hate these bloody live traps.

No. I was getting tired, and another store was just too much. I did see some JD at the last store, but it was some odd flavor, so I just passed it by. Four bottle of wine and three kinds of beer. It will have to do me for a while.
