What's the location that you are setting them? I've had the best luck using the box trap when I set one side against a wall or fence and block the other side with something as well. Put the food all the way at the back of the trap and a little underneath the trigger plate. Then make sure it's fairly sensitively set.

When using box traps for the first time, they're more effective if you wire them open for the first few days. That way they can get fed and don't develop a fear of them.

I still highly recommend leg traps. They stick their paws in to get the goodies and can't get them out.

I ended up having to put hardware cloth on both sides of my trap. I put some bait at both ends of a 2 door trap and then on the treadle.

I never had them develop a fear of them. Even went out a couple times to find the trap sprung but nothing in it. Would return the next day and it would have the culprit.

Yea my one big box trap is an older one so it has graduated wire. Smaller on the bottom and bigger on the top. Stop them from reaching in the sides and stealing. Although it's also only a 1 door trap.

Don't worry, she'll give you another lesson tomorrow.

Pretty smart. I love how they wash their "hands" in the water. If they were more tame and didn't eat chickens, they would be fun pets!
