Well I'm disappointed with my project roosters. The Dark Cornish beat by about 1/2 pound At least on the two I weighed. Not an average by any means but I did not expect that much difference especially since the DC is a week younger. I had to weigh them again as I thought the scale went wacky. DC actually looked smaller

Calling it a day for butchering at 5 roosters. 102 in the shade.

I've always heard that DC are much heavier than they look. Have you been pleased with them? I'd like to cross them with NNs one day. Sorry it was so hot for you. I started super early, and was able to get 9 done, but it was 92F when I stopped, so a wee bit hot. (it got to about 100F today - it's been that pretty much daily).

I haven't weighed mine yet - I will when I prep them for freezing (after I cull I usually just toss then in the fridge in plastic bags, too tired to do too much more carcass clean up on the day of). Of course, the four heaviest birds are the ones that I kept, so these are all the smaller ones... Only one GNH in the group (and he has a cross beak), so not sure what the weights will tell me.

Well they sure seem to be. By looking at the parts I was sure mine would be heavier but the DC surprised me. Must be more compressed in the muscle as well.
The roosters are definitely starting to show their rooster tendency already. Guess the hens will start laying soon as well. I'll probably try the NN cross with them as they are not a pure strain.

No volcanos at all. We have to worry about the...big one. Earthquake inevitable. Folks are always saying, be prepared, we are due. I love living in this valley, with these huge mountains surrounding us. Our view is great from the back porch too..better in the winter when there aren't any leaves on our trees blocking the view..so, I can see from the kitchen window better.
