Sorry the pics were so bad..I tried to get one while candling, but it didn't turn out well by myself. I had to hold the egg, hold the flashlight against the egg, and then take a picture with my phone...so yeah

If you aren't fearful of losing some to predators, I'd just be patient. In a few more weeks, you should get in that range.
You may also want to up the protein to increase egg size. Add a little animal protein to the diet. The amount of yolk and albumen added are affected by dietary protein. The calcium carbonate will encase that no matter how big or small the yolk is.
Another thing is that a bird with adequate dietary calcium and adequate bodily stores will deposit about the same amount of calcium carbonate on an egg regardless of the size. That makes pullet egg shells thicker and sometimes harder to hatch from.

I've successfully raised bachelor groups together with little or no fighting. It's when there are girls in the mix that fighting ensues.
Even if they strutted and scuffled a bit during the day, they would sleep in a big boy pile on a feed bin at night.

After reading the link that Sally gave about using peanuts I might try and go that route to increase egg size. Thanks for letting me pick your brain on the subject.

all the others are larger than this one? are they all the same breed/egg color? at this point probably not much you can do but hope for the best

good Luck!!

That will encourage them to take a nap.

I would definitely wait to ship till this heat dome goes away. You don't want to kill a bird with such a small gene pool.
I would ship an adult bird when the temperature is zero but I wouldn't ship if there was a chance of it going over 80.

Did you see my post about the fact that in Austria they aren't all that standardized?

If your bird looks more like a sulmtaler and he has them, I would be a bit concerned about that.

With Black Penedesencas, there is only one hatchery that carries them. They admit they've lost the white earlobe in their birds. A friend got some from there and some of those ended up with 5 toes. How did that happen?

Wow 5 toes
No I missed the post about lax regulation on Altsteirers. My computer or phone isn't giving me all tags.

Hi. I have 6 eggs in my brinsea mini eco, and today is day 18(day 16 for one egg but that's a different story). I was going around and marking the air cells for the last time, when I noticed that the little cochin bantam egg that has a small air cell(I don't know why, all the others air cells are fine. The humidity has been at 30-41 % the entire time) is already internally pipped. Is that bad? Will it not have enough air? Will it drown since the air cell is too small?? Will I have to make a small hole in the air cell end of the shell so it has enough air? Sorry, I'm just really worried. This is only my second time hatching in an incubator...I can add a picture if you people want so you can see the size of the air cell.

Bantams will typically hatch a little earlier then LF.

No, that is the only egg from that hen I have in there. I have three other cochin bantam eggs in there, but they are from a different mother. The eggs are also slightly bigger. Plus I also have 2 mixed breed LF eggs in there(not sure of parentage, I have a lot of hens that lay light brown eggs lol). One of the LF egg's air cell seems slightly too big, but I don't think it is much bigger(it's not big enough to effect the chick's hatching, at least I don't think. It looks big compared to the others, but comparing it to the size of the egg itself, I think it is within a normal range) All the other eggs' air cells are bigger than Junior's(the egg I'm worried about). The others are the correct size, going by the charts online. I hope everything goes well too. I can see a few of the eggs rocking around in the bator. It's so cute. And thank you.

Whew, thought I would do some quick catching up, then slowed down when I noticed a person needing help. Then, I noticed something else, and I have to wonder..CC, why in the world don't you have your BYC Educator Badge yet? Ey? You are very helpful. I see all of you have been helping along.
Now, I can actually help with a small comment. I agree with Chaos on the bantams usually hatching early! lol..there. I really do know a bit on hatching those bantams though, I have hatched my fair share of silkies and bantam cochins. Love the silkie. :)

Going to be a torcher for the next 5 days here! Out I go to water things down, I mean really make it muddy, for the chickens under the apple trees.
