It isn't that complicated. The two guys that usually trimmed ours were wild men. They searched the area for the wildest horses they could find so they could subdue and trim and/or shoe them.

I'd be very interested to hear what you learned about the natural shoeless horse.

wild horses' feet are amazing to study! the things one can learn from them is vast, unfortunately my farrier doesn't get her feet quite the way i want, not enough of a roll on the toe but i am also not home anymore when he comes, lucky for me he can go when i am not there

I could fumble through if I had to, but I'm far from good. Last time I tried to trim one of mine, it took me 1 1/2 hour to do just the fronts. I always had gaited stock, and was afraid of screwing up their gaits through my own ignorance.

i can imagine, i wouldnt want to either, but mine is not gaited so i am ok there

Perhaps that's why we did ours so seldom. They ran 100 acres of fields, forests, hills and streams.
They were basically wild except when we corralled them for riding. There were a few I could walk up to and catch. That was only on weekends. The rest of the week they ran as a wild herd.

probably, if there were rocky ares they probably kept them pretty trimmed by themselves

The steep forested hills they had to climb to get from the front pastures to the back pastures were mostly rock.

I didn't catch that part as I was assuming that they only came from GFF. I will ask them. That would be great. Yea I know what assuming does.

From the looks of things they are taking orders for 2017 now. I'll email them when I get home and question them of origin. Theirs do look different than mine but it could just be lighting
